Death in Luxor - Cover Design
We're a couple days away from sending it to the printer - thought you guys might be interested in where the cover design is going:
Soon we'll post some previews of the handouts and maps, which turned out great.

Harley must be proud. That's some very high quality looking product right there. I've never played a Cthulhu game before, but that may just change now.

Re: Death in Luxor - Cover Design
Something that I've found to be true about Call of Cthulhu games (and really any horror game) is that the players need to be willing to be scared.
If they just wanna bash bad guys (unable to get out of the D&D mindset) or if they can't stop cracking jokes and being goofy, the game referee is effectively fighting a losing battle.
Having some passing familiarity with Lovecraft is always useful (but not mandatory), but players who can be mature enough to settle down, "play along" and allow themselves to get creeped out are going to be the best audience.
IMHO, YMMV, etc etc.

Loving the cover design.
Is there much in the way of interior art too?
Are there nicely fleshed out npcs?
How many pages are there?
*Insert various other excitable questions here*
Come on, spill some beans.....

Re: Death in Luxor - Cover Design
That cover looks fan-tas-tic! ...as if I wasn't jonesin' to play Cthulhu already anyway...
Dimensional Shamblers attacking at 4 AM while everyone was asleep, and a chase through flooded 'tunnels' where two characters nearly drowned set the tone for the rest of the campaign....
I discovered years ago, if your group is used to 'bash the monsters' D&D, if you have a few early encounters, Mythos-realted or not, where one or more PC's are nearly dead by the end of them, it establishes a new tone pretty effectively and quickly.Ogrepuppy wrote:Something that I've found to be true about Call of Cthulhu games (and really any horror game) is that the players need to be willing to be scared....

Re: Death in Luxor - Cover Design
With a bit of reflection, I can now recall that the Dimensional Shamblers attacked the same night as the swim in the tunnels... so those two encounters were only like three or four hours apart after an already hectic day... Players were on their toes after that, and everything was a potential danger.
Might've been the best long-form gaming I've ever run....
So FAR! I'll add hastily....

It's shipping from the printer early next week. Assuming all goes as planned, it should be in stores the week of December 22. Only a couple weeks away...

WOOT!
I've asked my local gaming store to order me a copy!

Re: Death in Luxor - Cover Design
Got my copy yesterday and I'm really pleased with it.
Read through it already and I think its a really solid product. Well conceived. Well written. And easy to follow. Even a novice Keeper like me should be able to run this without problem.
Thanks Harley.

Mr. Goodman, I hope you'll have copies of Luxor at DunDraCon... since I won't be getting a DCC* fix there, I'll need to buy something from your booth!

Thanks, Garuda. Much appreciated. Let us know if/where you run into problems and well correct them for the next release.Garuda wrote:Got my copy yesterday and I'm really pleased with it.

Consider one sold!goodmangames wrote:Yup, it'll be there!
Actually, you can probably consider all of them sold -- the Bay Area seems to be into The Call of Cthulhu since, um, forever.... I better get to the booth early....
