Hugh the Barbarian
This is Hugh the Barbarian, also known as Hugh the Valiant. Once the color is complete, he'll be the back cover illustration for DCC RPG. He'll probably end up on a poster, as well. I think Doug nailed it with this one.
HUGH!!!!!!
HUGH!!!!!!

Hmmm, a bit funkadelic, but I suppose it's a retro feel.

Love that skull doorway in the background. Details like this are part of what make Doug's work so cool ... the main characters are great but he doesn't stop there.

Re: Hugh the Barbarian
I was wondering why Hugh was wearing bellbottom trousers, then it sank in that it was an homage to the '70s, but I totally missed seeing the date. '79 might explain the gal, too, if she's our segue into the 80s, what with the leotard-and-legwarmers look. The poses look modern, with the adventures scowling out of the picture at some unseen attacker, like the cover of d&d 4e. This picture is so playful, and I love the detail!SniperTodd wrote:Check out the date on the rock - bottom left - hah!

Love the pants.
Instead of the Lord of the Rings soundtrack, maybe I should fire up some Parliament and James Brown for background music.
After all...
I don't know karate, but I know KUH-RAY-ZAY.

Kind of looks like a guy (ironically NAMED Hugh) that used to be part of our regular gaming group!

Is it too late to replace the handaxe with a laser pistol? Nice work!
