Core Book Typos?
All the Level 5 spells for Wizards in the Core book have positive results for a roll of 18-19, but if the DC to cast is 10 + (2x level), shouldn't a casting only succeed on 20 and above?

Could be.
Could also be that if you're learned enough to cast 5th Level spells, you know your, erm... stuff.

You're thinking of "In general, your spell succeeds if your spell check is equal to or higher than a base DC of 10 + (2x spell level)" but this is merely a comment providing general insight.MajorLeeAwesome wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:18 am if the DC to cast is 10 + (2x level), shouldn't a casting only succeed on 20 and above?
The actual rule is just before: "Compare the result to the casting table for that spell."
You could conceivably have a level 1 spell where you need to roll 20 or more to succeed, and you could have a level 5 spell where you succeed on 11+ already. The spells doesn't have to follow a formula; that formula is just general advice (it even says "in general" so it clearly isn't defining a rule for every occasion).

Sure, but I find it weird that, as far as I can tell, every spell in the book conforms to the formula except the 5-level Wizard ones. It's almost like they realized their mistake too far along in the printing process and said, "Eh, just put 'In general' at the start of the sentence of spell checks and be done with it..."CapnZapp wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 1:11 pmYou're thinking of "In general, your spell succeeds if your spell check is equal to or higher than a base DC of 10 + (2x spell level)" but this is merely a comment providing general insight.MajorLeeAwesome wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 10:18 am if the DC to cast is 10 + (2x level), shouldn't a casting only succeed on 20 and above?
