(On closer inspection the Drunken Monk class seems a touch unbalanced (a one-use per imbibing 3d8 attack at level one!), so I'll run a warrior.)

The balance of the long sword now feels natural and the weight of the armor lays less heavily on his shoulders. It is now that he realizes his name is no longer Tommy. The attempts to join in the fun and carousing at the Boot - of which he always felt an outsider - are in the past. Without a word, Thomas retrieves his thrown weapons and dons one of the green robes. He pulls the hood over his head to obscure his face and the sadness in his eyes as much as possible. He waits by the door.

Awesome.

[Where is the Drunken Monk class from, anyway?]

I found it linked in the DCC G+ resource google sheet. It looks fun, but could stand a little tweaking. Here's the blog post with the class details: https://wrathofzombie.wordpress.com/201 ... -dccified/

Ah, thanks.

There is such an explosion of material for this game, it's impossible to stay on top of it all!

Ah, good thing I reread these posts! I only now caught the luck point reward for this last battle.

It's heartening to see so many people working on all the homebrew material for this system. Of course, it makes it impossible to play all the shiny shiny modules, but I'll take swimming in resources over an unsupported gem any day.

Zeppo and his brother Meato were always going to be thieves. It seemed inevitable. Now, even with his brother dead, Zeppo sees no reason to change. "Once a gutterrat, always a gutterrat," he mumbles as he conceals his effects, including the blowgun and darts, under the robe.

Sanitor saw... "things." In that brief moment of being on fire, he saw the inferno, saw the end of the world, saw apocalypse, and heard the voice of its master whisper his name. He's also pretty sure he read about it somewhere. Flushed from the heat, his beard a little singed, he devotes himself as a cleric of the Infernal Vision, eager to test its inevitability and move toward the future he knows must lie ahead. Then he dons the robe and readies for the next step with his companions.

Thomas thinks back to earlier today as if it was a lifetime ago - when a bolt of lightning nearly claimed him in the streets of the Favela. He wonders what god or demon allowed him to escape that death and many others to give him another dance with the undead wizard. He tightens his grip around the hilt of what was once Millie's sword and feels the weight of the pitchfork and javelin, Travis's and Lala's respectively, strapped to his back. "I carry you with me, friends," he thinks, "let us rescue Other Molly together." He hears a gentle noise of an animal behind him. Lucy, Travis's hen, has been trailing behind and has caught back up to the group.

Thomas cannot help but smile. "Lucy, you silly bird," he says aloud, "you don't belong here." The chicken waits by the edge of the ignited booze. "But neither do any of the rest of us... very well," Thomas remembers the signal Travis always used to get the clumsy bird to fly to him and holds out his arm in a similar fashion, "come, Lucy!" Lucy flaps her way above the flames and lands, with surprising accuracy and grace, upon Thomas's shoulder.

As if with one mind, Thomas and Lucy look at Kylessa, "Time to use the those keys again, let's hope it's the last."

Brun searches the room for his shurikens and a pair of dry robes for himself and Kylessa and moves to stand beside Thomas.
Brun: "One brother was more than enough to lose this day. Let's get this done for Molly, and our lost."
Kylessa's unknowable smile is hidden in the depths of the hood she now wears as she works the keys to the door.

It takes a moment to find a key hole, there being none on the door leading out of here... But there it is on the back wall in the corner. The key is found, and turned, and the door slides up --

-- revealing a small 12' high alcove dominated by the face of a dragon, a bas relief in gold and green and orange... The fearsome face stares down upon you, it's eyes seeming to spin, such is the perfection of the spiral pattern thereupon.

Sanitor and Kylessa feel the ungodly imprint upon this thing, distant memories of things hinted at in readings they've each made in the past, brought up to the surface of their minds, almost painfully.

Then the jaw drops as part of the ongoing door opening mechanism, as if the gargantuan maw were opening to swallow the Iron Freebooters.

Beyond is a massive chamber, filled with people, lit by a huge brazier in each of the five corners. 80 feet away is the far wall, decorated with an even more massive dragon design.

Immediately in front of that is a platform floating 6 feet off the ground! Upon it is OTHER MOLLY! She is supported by an unknown man, and her posture says she's sleepy or drunk. Next to her is the flame-eyed wizard from the street fight, resplendent in blue silk robes, with a wicked grin upon his face.

Also upon the platform are three officiants and what look like two other guards.

Oll Zen practically cackles the words, "I do." The glee in his eyes is terrible to see.

The man holding Other Molly has a wide short sword that he presses to her neck, compelling her to speak...

Between Other Molly and you five, there are a dozen-dozen people. This mass of kneeling supplicants are in a cloud of incense, and are swaying and gibbering in a trance-like state, seeming enthralled to their master Oll Zen and his dragon-faced god.

Let us hear how you enter this room....

Does everyone have a robe? Slip in or rush 'em?

Assuming the dozen-dozen isn't a typo I think we're better off slipping in, but quickly. Did anyone grab the bucket? If not Sanitor will quickly dodge back in and grab it and fill it with alcohol, if he can.
Unless stopped by the other Freebooters, Zeppo will slip in as discreetly as possible and see if he can't skirt his way around the crowd, keeping low...

There are enough robes for the five of you, plus a spare 2.

The dozen-dozen is not a typo, and it is approximate.

I don't think anyone has grabbed the bucket... besides Sanitor.

Sounds like we're slipping in as much as we can with Zeppo trying to get a good angle. If/when we're detected, should we do a full volley at the wizard? The signal for the volley will be our usual battle cry.

I'm not sure about some of the dimensions of our current surroundings, and maybe it won't all be useful information but: How far away from the platform are the dozen-dozen? How large is the platform? It's holding at least seven people, right? It's 80 feet from the door we entered to the far wall. How close to that wall is the ceremony?

For Jeff and Fenris: is there any chance that the robes will be a hindrance? We don't happen to have a detect magic spell amongst us? Do we need to steer clear of the incense? How are we getting onto that platform?

Sanitor tells you he intends to get close enough to call upon the Infernal Vision to cast either darkness or paralysis at the moment someone can get a hold of Other Molly. Once she's off the platform, he's going to try to throw a bucket of flaming alcohol onto them or the crowd, whichever makes the most sense.
He's not sure but he'd guess that Zeppo is going to try to stab the crazed wizard in the back.

"Kylessa, you look touched by the arcane. Do you have anything at your disposal?"

GB, do I know what spell is on grimoire? Or do I just cast it and find out the hard way?
Also, how attentive to the rest of the room do the individuals on the platform seem?

Kylessa: "If I can bend their minds to my will, I'll throw his own against him. Failing in that, I'll rain stars upon him. It's...so clear to me now...Mara told me how...Mara will help me."

With that she hold out the tattered, stained rag-doll she'd been clutching under her robe. Some of the seams at the doll's head seem to have unraveled a bit especially around the mouth, and little tufts of hair are sticking out. Some grayish, some brown some the color of straw. Dark stains mottle the things middle.

Kylessa's innocent mind unhinged upon a black gulf of Chaos, and that which dwelt therein whispered secrets into her vengeful, broken heart: the words that bend men's minds (Charm Person), the sigils that call to the beasts (Animal Summoning), the power to call down the stars (Magic Missile), the way to walk walls (Spider Climb), and a host of runes lost to mankind (Runic Alphabet, Mortal).

The room is a non-symetrical pentagon.

The mass of people more or less fill the space between you and the platform, but they are clustered toward the middle, leaving big 'aisles' around the perimeter of the room.

The platform might be something like 6 by 10 or 8 by 12, by your best eyeball guess. It sits at the point of the pentagon across from the flat wall you're entering through, like maybe 10 or 15 feet in front of it. The bas relief of the dragon *sort of* fills in that point, but it's not flattened out by it.

jeff c wrote:GB, do I know what spell is on grimoire? Or do I just cast it and find out the hard way?

If you want to attempt to cast, we'll discover randomly what it'll be at that point and what the spellcheck is... You'll have full control at that point (choosing targets or what have you), but until you unleash the genie, who knows what it looks like?

The events on the platform are coming to a head right now, so attention is at this very moment focused on Other Molly, waiting for the words "I do" to come from her mouth...

Once she's said those words, there's no telling what will happen.

Assuming those spells are online: maybe we can get a charm person to work on the guy holding Other Molly so that she doesn't have to immediately say "I do" then we can turn that short sword on our nemesis, the undead wizard. That or spell burn the bejesus out of magic missile for a result in the 30's. Maybe the less prepped of us - to deal with a floating platform, anyway - can create some chaos below by turning over the incense as well as throwing an ignited pail of booze? Thomas doesn't have much else to do for now, so he can use the bucket the first round if Sanitor has another option available.

18+1=19 initiative. Should we move in from the side opposite from where Zeppo is sneaking?

Sanitor will hand the bucket over to Tommy, then skirts around the right side (opposite Zeppo's side) to get a little closer for the spell-casting. Maybe Tommy could follow behind him?
Then once we get into position, we can signal Kylessa to let her rip with her charm?
Meanwhile Zeppo is getting as close as he can without being noticed, all stealth like. How's the lighting in here?

Thomas will move behind Sanitor, readying the bucket for a repetition of the mayhem of the previous room.

Okay, the baddies got a 26 Initiative (yep! that happened), BUT -- let's hold those over to after your surprise actions. As the door opens and you can take action no one knows you're there... So it's all pre-initiative, until your cover gets blown... We'll deal with your actions until someone notices you, and at that point, it's round one, and whoever hasn't acted will get their chance in that round.

QUICK QUESTION: Does Sanitor have his Clerical Spells determined? If not, one of them is either Paralysis or Second Sight (your choice) as being appropriate to It That Shan't Be Looked Upon. The others should be random. (And the 'grimoire' option is still in effect, too.)

And just a reminder, I am leaving early on Saturday, and lots of things (like visiting game forums) will drop away for about a week. We're going to wrap this by tomorrow night, one way or the other. Hopefully, with as much of your own input as possible!

jeff c wrote:How's the lighting in here?
There are five braziers, one at each point of the pentagon. So everyone looks really cool, with that side lighting with the "shadow down the center of the face" thing going on. The lighting crew was really stoked (until the camera crew shot the whole thing from the wrong angles). It also leaves folks closer to a brazier back-lit, and harder to recognize, and the center of the room is dimmer than the rest.
