Re: Frozen in Time - As a 0-level funnel
Can't remember if we're doing ongoing initiative, or new initiative each round, so here's a roll for that, if needed: 16
Voorak stabs again with his spear, then tries to retreat out of the reach of the metal thing: to hit 9, damage 8 (of course).
Tarr rushes in with his pelt and tries to entangle an arm of the thing: d20 roll 15!
Telva stays behind Tarr, and if he is even partially successful in trapping the thing's arm, follows up with her length of chain, trying to secure that arm further: d20 roll natural 20!
Sarkla enters the room, but stays out of the fray as best as possible, more hoping to help anyone to exit the melee if they are in trouble.

With an anguished scream, Myrna looks for a better weapon to slay the armored horror that slew her mate- that sword! She reaches beyond the flickering demon-glow to grab it... Bjorn chants to the Great Bear and leaps upon the monster even as Blackfeet enters and looses a slingstone at its head...

I do once per combat, so metal golem is up again!GnomeBoy wrote:Can't remember if we're doing ongoing initiative, or new initiative each round...
Scanning the room, it spies Bjorn's low luck score (7) and attacks with pincers snapping as she charges the creature! It slaps her aside hard (to hit = 10) and does 3 points of damage. She hits the wall... hard... and lies still.
Myrna rushes up to the sword, and there is no flickering glow around it. She grabs it (see photo)! Acts as a longsword (1d8).
Blackfeet's stone caroms off the beast's glass crown, chipping it. It doesn't seem too bothered.
Tarr and Telva rush in and capture the creature's arm in pelt and chain. Give me an opposed STR check (d20 plus any STR bonus, adding +1 for the additional person) if they want to keep the arm pinned next round.

Strength check (d20 +1 +1) = 10
Voorak rushes back in for a spear attack: 14 to hit, and 7 damage! *fingers crossed*
Sarkla again stands back, ready to help someone away from the thing's clamps if needed...

I'm not sure how you want to handle it, but I'd burn up to two Luck to make a hit.

Re: Frozen in Time - As a 0-level funnel
Myrna's new sword fails to find a vulnerable spot in the metal armor.
Blackfeet's sling comes loose in his hand as he tries to release a bullet... he manages to catch it, but his next attack will be at a -2 to hit...
The creature shrugs off Tarr and Telva, who are sent backward onto their behinds along with their hide and chain.
It attacks Myrna and hits with a nat 20! One point of damage, and she's swept off her feet. Next round, she's prone, losing her attack.
Voorak, taking advantage of their distraction, rushes forward and jams his spear into a seam between the creatures chest and waist! Some sparks fly out of the spot he hits.
Did I miss anyone?

Re: Frozen in Time - As a 0-level funnel
Voorak, finding it familiar to kill things with his spear, savagely strikes again: Atk FUMBLE! Fumble result 2 minus luck mod = 1 laughable strike, no other effect
He reels back away from the thing, not quite with his tail between his legs...
Sarkla, seeing fire erupt from where Voorak struck assumes the thing is powered by fire. She rushes in, opening her waterskin, and tries to spritz water into the seam at the thing's waist where Voorak hit it so well before. Atk 5
Tarr and Telva both step up again and dropping their respective entanglers as they rise, trying to simply smash the thing with their usual weapons:
Tarr: Atk 14 -- I'd possibly burn some Luck to make that work, but I'm still not sure how we're doing it. Voorak burned two to make a 16, but I don't know if we don't get to know how much it really takes, or if that happened to be what it takes to hit... Is burning Luck a 'blind' action, that either works or not? Or do we only burn as much as it takes to create a success?
Telva: Atk 10

Well, it's a blind process, but I tend to only say "are you comfortable with that roll" when you're pretty, pretty, pretty close. So I'll let you read between the lines.GnomeBoy wrote:Tarr: Atk 14 -- I'd possibly burn some Luck to make that work, but I'm still not sure how we're doing it. Blackfeet misses with his sling.
The monster clips Sarkla on the shoulder, dealing 1 hp of damage.
The others miss as well, but Tarr comes from nowhere and does ___ points to the mechanical creature!

TARR DOES A MIGHTY 9 POINTS OF DAMAGE!
Sarkla gasps at her survival...
My four attempt to smash the thing AGAIN, flailing wildly at the metal man:
Sarkla does her best to stay on that 'wound' that Voorak caused earlier, trying to spritz water into it: Atk 16! [not sure how you want to do 'damage']
Tarr attacks: 7
Telva attacks: 3
Voorak rushes back in and attacks: 10

Myrna and Blackfeet chip away at the beast's metal hide...
It tries to grab Myrna, but she deftly evades its grasp.
Sarkla then directs a stream of water right into the creature through the hole in its side. At first, it seems to have no effect.
Then, with a loud BANG, a shower of sparks fly out of the wound, and the creature stops moving, its arms and glass helmet slumping forward. A large amount of smoke rises from it toward the ceiling of the room.

Sarkla takes note of how much water remains in the skin [________?], and confers with Voorak about strategy, should this need arise again...
Then, my four team up in pairs, with one to try to knock an item off it's pedestal when the blue light flickers off, knocking it to the second person who tries to catch the item.
Voorak > to > Sarkla
Telva > to > Tarr
The specific items don't matter too much, since they are all alien and strange. They start by trying to get one item by each pair, then move on to examination and experimentation before trying for another item.

Re: Frozen in Time - As a 0-level funnel
Ok, Myrna bashes the glass helmet to bits, and eventually stops, panting.
Here is the status of the pedastals. They break down into 3 categories.
NO FLICKERING LIGHTS
#1 The katana / longsword already snatched by Myrna.
#8 A large hoplite bronze shield.
#9 A star-shaped silver badge with a bullet hole through the center. Strange writings on its face.
SURROUNDED BY INTERMITTENT FLICKERING LIGHTS
#2 A suit of rosebud and briar-decorated full-plate armor.
#3 A statuette of an enigmatic humanoid face with strange glyphs surrounding its base.
#5 A long spear-like weapon with a hole on one end where the spear-head should be, a switch on the bottom about 3/4 of the way to the other side, and and an enlarged end that looks as though it could be braced against one's shoulder.
#10 A painted ceramic vase of exquisite craftsmanship.
SURROUNDED BY SOLID BLUE LIGHT
#4 A boxy apparatus with straps and a pair of button-covered metal bracers.
#6 A petrified wooden plank of no discernible origin.
#7 An Enigma machine (Google it

Are Voorak and Telva using their hands to knock the items off the intermittent light pedestals or something else?
For each one, they need to roll a REF check to see if they can grasp or knock them from its perch without incident. For the suit of armor, there also needs to be a STR check.

They are both doing this bare handed...

Telva for #4: 7

As Voorak reaches for the artifact, he tries to time his grab but fails, the blue lightning field coming up in mid-attempt.GnomeBoy wrote:They are both doing this bare handed...

He needs to roll a Fortitude save (to see how handles coming into contact with this mysterious energy field).
He also needs to roll a Luck check (to see if he came in contact on the way in or the way out. If he makes the Luck check, he came in contact on the way in, without the artifact in his hand).
As for Telva, I want to make clear that she does not see any gaps, intermittent or otherwise, in the energy lighting field. Does she still attempt the grab of #4?

Re: Frozen in Time - As a 0-level funnel
Voorak's Fort Save is a 15.
His Luck roll is a 5 (so I hope he's rolling under Luck!)
And that's totally my bad on the choice there... I saw they were in categories, but when I got back around to posting, I was ignoring the categories... Mea culpa. They are both going for flickering fields, not solid ones. So let's switch to #3.

Ok, as Voorak reaches for the item, the field activates suddenly and with a FLASH he is thrown onto his back... apparently unharmed, but numb all over and unable to move!GnomeBoy wrote:Voorak's Fort Save is a 15.

How does Telva roll on her FORT save?
