I still have another question to clarify ! For characters who do not have a former thief / rogue type profession, and are not a thief / hobbit class, what type of dice do they roll to find / remove traps or secret doors ? 1d10 ?

Thks again !

1d10 unless you think they have some reason to roll 1d20

'Obbits don't even have any particular ability with Finding or Removing Traps...

And the d14 and d16 are viable alternatives for skill checks, too, if the circumstances seem right.

I'd allow up to a d14 if the player can convince me the character has relevant knowledge/experience.

And what about "find secret doors" skill ? Do you allow all PCs to roll a d20 ?

Again, there's no flat rule I employ -- depends on the nature of the 'secretness' of the door. Is it just hidden behind a curtain? Is it magically camouflaged? Is it a bookcase that spins? These are all different effects that different people might have different aptitudes for detecting...

In an ideal play session, I'd allow anyone to look for secret doors if they had a specific thing in mind.. like if they saw a book-case and decided to search the book-case for a secret door, or said they were searching the wall, or whatever. So.. anyone could search with a specific area in mind, with the d10. Only theifs I would allow to search the room in general without having a specific location in mind.

Thank you for these wise tips. I sometimes have difficulties to get rid of my old AD&D reflexes... but I greatly appreciate the DCC mechanisms !
