Does it seem to anyone else that the Lost/Failure on the spell charts are a bit to severe? Get the spell off or loss it.
How about; The spell is lost on a roll of 1 to 9, but on 10 or 11 it just fizzles and the caster still keeps the spell.
What do you think?

Check page 4 of the Limiting Corruption thread:

That shows how things are going, somewhat...

Then you would likely need to have a limited number of casts a day though (something I actually desire mind you, though I am probably in the minority).Stonebreaker wrote:Does it seem to anyone else that the Lost/Failure on the spell charts are a bit to severe? Get the spell off or loss it.

I don't think you'd need a daily number of casts, for every spell you fail to cast you'd just have a 22% chance of being able to try it again.bholmes4 wrote:Then you would likely need to have a limited number of casts a day though (something I actually desire mind you, though I am probably in the minority).Stonebreaker wrote:Does it seem to anyone else that the Lost/Failure on the spell charts are a bit to severe? After some calculations:
AS BETA : A first level, +1 INT wizard knows 4 spells that are lost on an 11-.
He's likely to cast a total of around 4 spells a day.
With the proposed houserule: same wizard, same spells, spell lost on a 9-.
He's likely to be able to cast around 6 spells a day, of which 1 on average will be a simple "miscast, not lost" result, so a net 5 effective spells.
That could be a problem, bholmes4 is right. I had proposed on some other thread (i think it was the "higher level spells for BETA" thread) to write 1-10: fail, lost and only 11: fail
to avoid moving too much those probabilities that BETA gave us.

As I read it, when a wizard gains levels and becomes a better caster the chance of failure stays about the same, but the wizard would be less likely to lose spells. NEAT
