Forums being discontinued?

I noticed the forums aren't linked on the Goodman Games website any more, at least, I can't find the link, so I've been coming here based on bookmarks, but there's been nothing new for a while, is the plan to let these forums die off?

No one has notified me of any changes here. Perhaps an error on the Goodman main pages? I will ask around.

I've been able to find the link to the forums, its just not the way I was used to finding it. On the "social media" part of the page on the right hand side, there's a link to the forum, it uses the goodman games dinosaur.

Still, it seems like the forums are quite dead recently, I wonder what happened.

I stopped getting email notifications, although I got ONE single notification today, link in the email to here, and I see that I had 38 notifications. I'll have to keep this window tab open if I want to keep seeing notifications.

There was an issue with the forum mail server for some time. I discovered it a few months ago when I tried to sign up: I was able to create an account but I didn't receive the confirmation e-mail, so I couldn't activate it.

There was actually an error at the top of the screen that told me what the problem was [for those who care, the hostname for the certificate configured in the forums was a different one to the one in the mailserver]. I thought someone would notice this and fix it, but no.

Eventually I sent details of exactly what was wrong and instructions of how to fix it and after that the good tech people did fix it.

So that is the explanation for why you were not getting e-mail notifications for a while but they have now re-started.

This is very sad. I always feel a sense of loss when independent forums are closed down in favour of gated communities with Big Tech as gatekeeper.

I have come here from another forum, called The Piazza. And I found out these forums were about to close, when someone posted a Goodman Games Forums are Closing in our industry news forum. The Piazza is primarily set up as a forum for D&D campaign settings, but it has expanded beyond that. And we have had some level of discussion of Goodman Games products since The Piazza was founded. There were some folks who wanted us to set up a DCC forum, but we didn't have enough DCC fans onboard for that.

I'll go into more detail on Joseph Goodman's official announcement topic. But if some or all of you want to move conversations over to The Piazza, you are welcome to do that.
