Random Esoteric Creature Generator

Post by beermotor »

Hey are there any plans to reprint this as a hardback, like the Dungeon Alphabet? Although I read a review on Amazon that said he'd have preferred a digest-sized booklet (similar to CRAWL! ?). Just wondering. Was about to order a copy, but not particularly thrilled that it seems to be perfectbound instead of hardback. I'm tough on books. :-)

I should point out that I love the fact that DCC RPG, Dungeon Alphabet, and Random Esoteric Creature Generator potentially give me everything I need to go nuts. I haven't even looked at the latter two yet, so maybe they cover the same ground, but a Fantasy Milieu Approximator might be a final piece of the puzzle, kind of a RECG for worlds/environments/politics, a la Traveller's planetary stuff.

Having said that, what this means is, you've made Dwarf Fortress: the TableTop Game. (sort of.)

My copy of the RECG by JER4 is just saddle stapled, not perfect bound.

Maybe I am misusing publishing lingo. Always thought "perfectbound" meant softcover. ?

It's a slim, 30-page volume that's saddle-stitched softcover. It's simply so thin that making it hardcover wouldn't work; the covers would be thicker than the contents. Basically, if you've got any of the DCC RPG modules so far, it's not much thicker than those if that gives you some idea.

Perfectbound is a softcover that has a squared, glued binding -- avoiding those makes sense if you are tough on books like you mentioned...

I'd prefer a digest sized hardback myself! But I still love my RECG.

I would be totally interested in seeing an expanded reprint, like Dungeon Alphabet. It'd be much preferable to "another" manual of monsters.
