Agreed. That trio of images at the top is a good representation of the setting. Nice job, Joseph.

Re: Gearghast

Sorry I just got around to replying about this now, but this is pretty cool. I had been incorporating undead into my (currently in limbo) home DragonMech campaign, and this would fit perfectly. The DC 22 sounds a little high, though I admit my stat math isn't the best. In any event, nice work!

Re: new lunar monsters - suggestion

Got it. So you mean how would, say, a lunar umber hulk differ from a "standard"/Highpoint umber hulk? Yes, the pseudonatural template would be an easy, fast answer, and would certain make creatures look more "alien" and would pose an unpleasant surprise for jaded players.

Re: Dragonmech; Firefly?

You guys are going to become known as the "Dragonmech/Firefly" guys if you're not careful. :) Hey, I'm cool with that, also! And I'm a recent Firefly fan, too. I didn't get around to view the entire series until a couple of months ago, thanks to the glories of Netflix. Laughingcarp, I lik...

Re: new lunar monsters - suggestion

The pseudonatural template appeared first in Tome and Blood (remember the B&W supplements for D&D v3.0?) and reappeared in (I think) Complete Arcane . I've used the pseudonatural template in my home DragonMech game, but not for lunar creatures. I added a Cthulhu-type artifact in one story wh...

Re: Is this possible? And if so, how would you do it?

Like Nigel, I'm a big fan of what Grant Morrison did with Robot-Man in his brilliant Doom Patrol revamp . As for how to get there.... I'm intrigued by tadk's idea. Instead of having your wife's character transformed into a robot, you could say that her character's mind somehow becomes trapped in Eth...

Re: WHAT IF (possible dragonmech plot)

Good idea! Now how about THIS twist: The mind flayers are native to a world other than Highpoint or its moon. To please their alien masters, they're using these mega-telekinetic powers to bring the moon closer and cause devastation. But the creatures of the moon -- though evil -- are innocent of the...

Re: 4th Edition Etherscope?

An Etherscope wiki sounds like a good idea, but I'm maxxed out on time these days. There is a Wiki for the DCC line, though.

At this point, there are no plans to apply 4th edition rules to Etherscope. One of the reasons behind adding a complete set of rules to the Etherscope Core Rulebook was so that it wouldn't be tied to any changes to the base d20/D&D rules from WotC. To run Etherscope, all you need is the core boo...

Absolutely correct. Zepcars are ether-powered vehicles for use in the Prime, but I'm sure there are programs that will provide similar conveyance in the Scope.

River looks good, Ken. Never thought of Detect Hostile Intent , but that one really is perfect for her. Don't think Body Adjustment fits, though. How about Escape Detection ? And for her artificial parts, may I suggest either swapping one of the damage bonuses for the improvement to unarmed damage ...

Arek, thanks for the update and for spreading the word! It's always good to hear about new fans. I'm curious about the comments regarding the new classes. Sure, maybe this is a hard-to-please group (which makes the thumbs-up for the setting ever better), but anything in particular that you recall? I...

He said he liked it, so I'll take him at his word. He seemed to get the hang of things pretty quickly, and even surprised me when -- after checking his character sheet -- he tossed his requisite 50 feet of rope out to one of the PCs struggling in the water! Smart move, considering most veteran playe...

A memorial for a friend, Castle Whiterock style

(I'm cross-posting from my blog, since the good folks in these forums may appreciate this.) Brian – a friend and gaming buddy of many years – died in November . Many of his friends, as well as his teenage daughter, Rose (now a gamer herself), have been trying to get together for an appropriate sendo...

Love the skinstealers. They're a great contrast to the violence and chaos that's associated with the lunar rains and monsters like the lunar dragons. Players aren't expecting subtlety. When I ran my DragonMech game at Gen Con two years ago, the PCs cornered the dwarven "bad guy" and were ...

Yep, that would work. Or you could keep it within the setting as is by saying that Mal & Pals were part of a failed coup against the Stenian Confederacy a few years ago. In the current political landscape of Highpoint, there are plenty of opportunities for smugglers, scavengers, and other bold/d...

Oh, I agree -- for our "Serenity" Talon, I'd rely on Wash and Kaylee to find inventive ways of customizing the mech and replacing one of the buzzsaws with a steam cannon or, with the right amount of money, a magic missile turret. In fact, the quest to come up with the right amount of money...

The stats look good! Yeah, let's give Simon the six levels of Bardic Sage, and yes, let's definitely give River two more levels of Hissing Psiborg to reflect her butt-kicking prowess in the movie. The Falcon is indeed in Mech Manual. As for what type of mech to base Serenity on, I'd go with the Talo...

Actually, yes. The Legion has a Huge-sized mech called the Falcon, but it's a one-man mech, its flights are short, and you need a top-notch mech pilot to have a prayer of landing intact. From a size and crew perspective, a mech the size of Serenity wouldn't, well, fly. But in terms of doing a...

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't be +1 to any manifester. 'Course, that could be because I haven't got the book I don't see why either, since spellcasting PrCs usually don't have such a class-specific limitation, but I'm sure we had a good reason for it when we put the book together... :? Hrmmm. True, from the perspective of maximizing her psi potential and getting the most use out of her power points, it might be best to ditch the Hissing Psiborg Prc and its built-in PsiWar levels (as cool as that sounds) and just go with an Psion/Steamborg build ... unless, as you point out, you us...

Acutally, the hissing psiborg doesn't require Psychic Warrior levels to get started, just some psi ability. Even a wild talent would do. If the PC doesn't have any levels in Psychic Warrior at the start, then they gain powers as a 1st-level PsiWar when they first take the PrC. As for River, yeah, go...

I gave serious thought to Mal as an ex-paladin, because of the passion that he had for the rebels' cause and for his dedication to those ideals. So, OK, let's go back to that. As for anklebiter, I figure he k...
