Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC
Ever since I read Dave Arneson's Adventures In Fantasy & First Fantasy Campaign, I've wanted to try his GP for XP system. Instead of receiving XP for GPV, he rules that players must spend their gold in some way relevant to their characters to receive XP for it. You could spend GP on class traini...

Re: Class Cheat Cards
hope raising this from the dead isn't too annoying to folks, but I'm reading through the older posts, came across this & wanted to say: thanks so much! Not annoying at all! I've been away from these forums for longer than I care to admit, but thanks to getting the 8th printing, I've decided to ...

Re: What do you think of this home brew skill system?
I love the way skills are presented in the rules, and I rely on this 99% of the time. That said, your list covers the basic skills I am used to seeing in 5e D&D, and I'd be okay with any player choosing from this list - if their background & occupation warranted it's inclusion. I don't see a...

I have a simple, mechanical egg-timer. I can set it for up to an hour. It has more of an audio effect, causing everyone at the table (including me) to jump when it rings.

Re: Running DCC with One player and One GM
I ran five 5e PCs in a game that we had to do online via Google Hangouts last month and I'm still waiting to get another hack at that game. I am sure that playing a funnel style DCC game always having 4 PCs is totally possible! Of course, I used an online semi-random character generator to make thos...

Welcome Aaron! Best of luck with your group! I cannot envy you in South Carolina during the summer, I remember many hot, sweltering summer days when I was stationed in Charleston! Lovely city though, I hope that hasn't changed about it!

Re: Judge or something else
I like the term Judge, "because you adjudicate how things should be done." as it seems to settle my mind in middle ground between the megalomaniacal aspersions that Dungeon Master connotates with jaded players, and the perception of same of abject boredom by simply refereeing the game in a...

Re: Paranoia RPG with DCC rules?
Honestly, I never thought of this combo, but its a natural progression (regression?) of setting and system. I haven't had DCC long enough to convince my players to try it, although the 0 level funnel is a good example of what to incorporate into a DCC Paranoia game. Multiple 0 level PCs = Alpha Comp...

Offering to tithe something to the cleric's church in return for healing is usually enough to placate the cleric's sense of piety.

Re: How to handle player losing all their characters
Another thought about character death -- when I am playing at the table with newbie players I try to have a conversation with the DM first and tell him or her that if a character "needs" to die please make mine the first. I would model acceptable behavior (no tantrums, getting angry, etc....

Re: Spell power progression scale
Are those all 5e terms? They are present in 5e, but I don't know if they originated there, or in any previous edition of D&D. My understanding is that those types of damage apply to cases in which creatures are immune (no damage), resistant (half damage) or vulnerable (double damage) to certain...

Re: Spell power progression scale
Force damage? 5e categorizes types of damage, so you have: Piercing, Slashing, Bludgeoning, Fire, Cold, Lightning, Acid, Poison, Necrotic, Force. I've never really seen how different types of damage affect the character via wounds, but I assumed that when (whether by spell or potion, etc.) a single...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
 Yes, I had some 0 level pre-gens available - dorky names and all, while two players rolled up their own quartets of 0 level characters, but that is as far as we got. One player was eager to try it and called the other one a wuss for not wanting to. I fluked out with a new group recently. I to...

... but I can't get the whole group to play it, as they are very resistant to playing any game of D&D where possible character death is a daily thing, especially where the characters rolled up are little better skilled than farmers. IOW, they just don't 'get it' how that can be a fun, character...

Re: Sailors on the Starless Sea - Session Recap
Based on my experience at least that should be more than sufficient given how much stronger a 1st level character is than a zero. A warrior will make short work of everything short of the leviathan and chaos lord and spells have a ton of utility. That is as long as your level 1s don't get insta-gib...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!
Greetings. Glad to see this forum is back up, it was down when I first started learning to play DCC. Shame about the splitting of the community, it's a great game that thrives on homebrewed rules and that really shines when you can see what other groups are doing and thinking. I didn't see a rules ...

Re: Character creation - Wainwright (your dead)
In general I agree with absolutely all of that. This is really just a case of particulars for this situation: - For Portal Under the Stars, I like keeping the map to the scale that's printed (1 square = 5'). It makes the place very cramped when you toss 12-20 nobodies into the funnel. I think it ad...
