Megadungeons

I've seen some discussions of DCC not being a good fit for long-term campaigns in general and megadungeons in particular. What problems have people encountered? I've been running a long-term PbP game for about 18 months now, and the bigger story has developed pretty naturally. I gave my players a co...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC

Still a pretty cool idea. I do like adding gold/xp into DCC, i just like.. "earning" levels, and only getting 1-4 XP per encounter makes it a slog. And getting "milestone" style level ups just feels wrong to me. So getting loot to earn more xp seems like a good addition. Here is...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC

Some nice ideas here. My experience has been that 2 levels of B/X (or AD&D or most other OSR products) equates roughly to 1 level of DCC RPG, so that might help guide you a little in estimating your conversions. Overall I like what I see, however. Thanks again for the encouragement. What starte...

I included a nod to these in Curse of Mistwood.
I missed that module, though I know your work and your blog; great stuff in general. I'll check out Curse (and Trolls, though I see you're just editor there and not one of the writers?). Thanks for the tip.

Re: What other Appendix N inspired settings would you like to see?

Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books. I've considered this for a long time, and at first I thought these books wouldn't really work as a setting for an adventure-based RPG. They're not in Gygax's Appendix N, and then even though Moldvay in his B/X inspirational reading has Peake listed, it's only as one...

Re: Locate Object

I'm guessing the range is supposed to change, but in my copy at least each range per round is the same.

Locate Object

What's the difference between a spell check of 22-25 and 26-29? I've read the descriptions (pg. 179) three times each and they seem identical.

Re: Reader's guide to Lankhmar fiction

To be fair to Bailey, I started it just after reading all of Leiber straight through, and maybe it just paled in comparison. If I went back with lowered expectations, I might enjoy it more.

Re: Looking for a game

I'm intending to run something here on this board, but I think I need to wait until after Spawn of Cyclops Con for the free headspace in which to do it. Sooo... does early March work for you? I'd be into this. I've been a DCC Judge for about a year and a half, but I haven't really had much chance t...

Re: Reader's guide to Lankhmar fiction

Two things to add to my original post: (1) Swords Against the Shadowland by Robin Wayne Bailey. My understanding is that Leiber had written out a story outline but never got around to fleshing it out, and that Bailey started from here and build his novel. I have a copy on my shelf but honestly have...

Re: Saving Throws - Goodman Games response?

"Never tell me the odds." (Han Solo) Yeah, it just seems to me like there ought to be a chance of success or failure no matter what the situation, as long as it's clearly not impossible. I have a lot of games where I might make a comment like, "roll a d20 to climb the rope; just don'...

Re: Introductions Thread - Join the Band!

I'm Dustin, and I live in Brooklyn. I played a few RPGs when I was really young (AD&D 2e, Marvel Super-Heroes RPG, Paranoia, Chill...), but I didn't start DMing until I was 14 and bought the Rules Cyclopedia. I've DMed off and on since then. These days I'm a high school teacher, and I help run a...

Re: What other Appendix N inspired settings would you like to see?

Not so much Appendix N inspired, but I feel like DCC could use a good Space Opera setting. There is 'Star Crawl' which fills that void to a certain extent. Feel obliged to start with: point me to a DCC core settings book with gender-inclusive/balanced language and images, and I will absolutely buy ...

Re: Actual play podcast / Stonehell

I've been running a PbP campaign on Discord with my old college buddies. We started off with some one-shot adventures with hooks leading from one to the next, did some wilderness and seafaring, etc. It's been going for about eighteen months, now (though slowly, as it's PbP), and the world keeps buil...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC

I've been tweaking this. Made some mistakes in my first version, didn't account for level disparity between B/X and DCC, for instance. I revised my modifications for pretty much all of the character classes. Anyway, I think I'm getting close to something workable and have designed a dungeon to try i...

Help Blending B/X into DCC

Background: when I was really young, I played a little 1st and 2nd Ed. AD&D, but the Rules Cyclopedia came out when I was 14, and that's pretty much what I've used for gaming ever since. A year or two ago, I discovered DCC and have been Judging an ongoing PbP campaign on Discord with seven of my...
