After our party defeated the sentry outside, a search of his lookout post enabled us to find some dwarven ale (?) I forget exactly what it was but it was alcoholic (good) and flammable (even better). We doused the ooze with the liquid and went to town on it with torches. (we figured the torches wer...

I can't even sell most of the Judges on the merits of laptop GM-ing (of which I am a huge fan). I love laptop GMing, but I definitely wouldn't want the see the entire live game go digital. You could even go with one readable regular d20 that everyone used would be better than the big unrollable die.

An excellent and well-said point. A team that did nothing would beat 4 other teams. At the same time, though, the team that did nothing also has no story to tell about the tournament. They had no fun, bested or were bested by no monsters, and solved or were slain by no traps. Even teams that are ut...

I agree as well, I'm (the competitor in me) is figuring out my best points odds for next year, hahafathead wrote:Oh, I completely agree. Goodman Games has done an awesome job structuring the tournamant...not an easy task.
Even if nothing changes, I'm happy with that. I was just offering up other ideas.

I don't really get the feel they are trying to make it more video gamish, but really that would be solely in the hands of the DM on how the game actually went. In the end the source books provide us a set of rules for the DM to work into his or her own world/campaign. I've read all the 4e articles o...

One could enter a room, then run out, its not very heroic, but its feesible. Calling quits is almost the same thing. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but in this years round 1, there was no running out. You either 1) approached the monster; awakening it and you fought it or died 2) stood in the e...

I'd prefer to finish it out, I think each group should go for the full 4 hours... Even if you do deside to fight that last battle, is there a negative to stopping when you have a PC who is ready to die and avoid the penalty for a PC death? In the later rounds I could see it, but in round 1 there's n...

Well next year in round 1, even if you have an hour left you might as well stop in that last room if you've had no deaths and completed everything to that point. You can only lose points most likely and enough teams make round 2 that you're safe to advance. <- Still can't believe they allow it... :x...

Re: Round 1
Yep. It's a little anti-climactic, but it was a good strategy on the part of the Blood Kings (afterall, the last room usually contributes to more PC deaths...which equals point deductions). I'm surprised they allow that; seems like they should make the PCs finish the time or die trying. "Hey w...

You can choose to stop?Celtar wrote:I will say that in the first round we didn't actually run out of time, we made a choice to stop.

One other observation - rules lawyers are fine, as are solid and experienced players...but what really livens up a group are stupid/silly players. It may sound counterproductive, but it's really not. Stupid players are more liable to fall into traps, get themselves (and the group) into trouble, and...
