Re: Best Starting Funnel and Level 1 Adventure
I think Sailors on the Starless Sea, a funnel, can segue nicely into Daniel Bishop's DCC adaptation of Tower of the Black Pearl, a level 1 adventure, if the PCs escape the former by ship.

Re: Level 1 player more deadly than 0 level play?
I am curious as to whether the OP has had a Halfling in the party. In my group's experience, the game becomes much more survivable with a Halfling. The ability to share luck may not protect the PCs from hot dice on the judge's part, but the party will hit more often, wizards and elves will keep thei...

Re: New Spells?
I've designed 1.5 spells for my game. I say 1.5, because I made an Invoke Patron results chart (that's the .5) for a patron specific to my campaign, and also that patron's 1st level patron spell. I found the process somewhat difficult and surprisingly time consuming. The invoke patron results chart ...

Re: The Case AGAINST Elf Spellburn
Why would he ever choose to be a wizard rather than an elf? Purely for roleplaying purposes. If you're playing with the 0-level and funnel rules, the player cannot choose to be an elf; she either is or is not one. Elves and other demihumans, in my experience, are rarely as optimized as the human cl...

Player1: Damn, another tight spot. I am going to cast Enlarge. Player 2: DUDE! Everytime you cast that you have to roll to see if you fall asleep and its the first spell you cast. Player 1: Its only a DC 5 save. Player3: Which you always fail. PLayer 1: Whatever, I cast it. Success! and.. d20: 3 Al...

Re: DCC boxed set?
This could come with a GM screen, or the box could be large enough to allow a GM to add his own. This could come with official DCC dice, or the box could be large enough to allow a GM to add his own. If the box set came with both the screen and the dice, it would probably convince me to part with m...

Re: DCC protects against railroading … but can it do a sandb
This summer I've been running DCC in a relatively open setting (I say "relatively" because, while there's a large dungeon with many possible avenues of exploration, the outside world is horribly underdeveloped). The campaign has worked well, and has largely been driven by player choice (th...

Re: Any reporting from GenCon?
Saturday night Adam Muszkiewicz of Dispatches from Kickassistan fame ran a game for me, Doug, Wayne Snyder, his wife Katie, and a couple other guys. It was continued from Adam's game the previous night, involved an ancient Sleestak city on the moon, and launched the legend of "Manskin Tailsock...
