Re: Are wizards too powerful in your campaign?
So to get 30 on a D20+3 (3rd level) with an average roll and lets assume a +1 INT bonus and average Luck etc you would need to spellburn 15 or 16 points just to give you a 50/50 chance of a 30+ for every spell you cast and you would be weaker than a fish for a long time. That's my experience here :...

Re: Light spell?
Maybe because a Light spell in DCC would have quickly ended (with a high roll, 21+) with the party having a lot of continual light objects, ruining the fun of exploring dangerous dark places. Others say it better then me : check dungeon of signs or goblin punch for instance. Or you can see it otherw...

Re: Weird idea
I had a weird idea for a funnel. The 0 levels are a group on a pilgrimage to a shrine and when they get there they discover that the shrine has been overrun by strange fungus creatures that they have to defeat in order that the shrine can be reconsecrated. What do you guys think? All ideas are grea...

Re: Luck Allocation in Game
I can answer for myself with a question: When the piano that happens to be falling from a high window as you walk by doesn't land on your head, is there a particular way you describe it not hitting you? Then again, in some campaigns people might treat it as the Halfling actively doing som...

Re: Patron Problems- The Three Fates
Send a paladin / inquisitor of sufficiently high level against them : if they kill him/her, they have proven their usefulness (well, faith  ). They will of course have to deal alone with the avenger... Or animate a statue with the 3 fates voices, make it immune to most magic and attack the twi...

Re: A question of Magic at 0 level
As 0-level PCs are not skilled in magic, they roll a d10 to use magic. If their starting occupation says they're skilled, they roll a d20 but still can't cast a spell like a normal wizard (just by reading a scroll or activating a special feature in the scenario or whatever happens in your funnel). A...

Re: DCC & Anomalous Subsurface Environment by Patrick Wetmor
This idea of Patrons being manifestations of the individual Magic User's psyche... insanity or not... reminds me of a book I recently read by Stephen King's son - NOS4A2... where various characters have access to 'powers' that involve some sort of item/device/vehicle that is not inherently magical ...

Anyway, a few ideas that I came up with from the same source material. Really like ASE a lot. Thank you for your feedback : I appreciate it and find it very interesting. My current clerics worship Ktulu, god of the sea and ancient things and BlackHole, god of the arms race (Ktulu is NOT Cthulhu) an...

Re: DCC & Anomalous Subsurface Environment by Patrick Wetmor
I really like the idea of patrons being a form of insanity. Another possibility is that patrons could be AIs that are buried underground, located on mountaintops, or are stuck in other sub-orbital locations. This means that they can do many of the same things as the orbital gods, but their reduced ...

Re: DCC & Anomalous Subsurface Environment by Patrick Wetmor
So the Patron is just a 'voice in their head'? THAT IS GENIUS! Thanks ! The only wrinkle is casting Patron Bond on another character might be out the window. Or else it's a conduit to a shared delusion... I will look at the spell more closely, good idea. BTW, more as a 'voice in their aid', I...

DCC & Anomalous Subsurface Environment by Patrick Wetmore
I said elsewhere on this forum that I've recently converted my 2nd level Labyrinth Lord team to 1st level DCC to go through the Anomalous Subsurface Environment by Patrick Wetmore. As you may know, ASE features many crazy and corrupted wizards (in fact, they rule the land) and DCC came as a natural ...

I find real high level play very interesting : thnaks for your feedbak oncelor.
Your arguments are pretty solid and I will reconsider my own instinctive position (not allowing multiple MDoAs).

Re: Athas DCC - proposed rules tweaks
You asked for advice, here's mine. a. Defilers/Preservers Magic requires spellburning; at least one physical stat point (per spell level) must be spellburned to even cast a spell. However, that physical stat point can be taken from the surrounding area... either from other sentient beings, or from t...

No news ? :( Still working on it, but at a much slower pace than anticipated due to the post-graduation job hunt. I kind of needed to recharge my batteries after last month, in any case. Because of the job hunt, I've pushed my January plans back to February. There's really no helping that, that's l...

Re: Mercurial Magic - Who uses it?
When I read that thread, I thought about this one and wondered if one could use those MM tables to help design unique magical items (instead of spells being cast).
MM effects could be interesting side effects for magical items, don't you think so ?
