The original novels were slim books from the late-60s/70s -- The Broken Lands, The Black Mountains, Changeling Earth -- later compiled into one book, "Empire of the East".

Re: Mighty deed of arms and other classes

Keep in mind -- the Deed is doing a thing and a full attack. You're smacking the target for full-on damage AND blinding them, or knocking them into their cohort, or whatever... The Deed is not being able to create a non-damaging effect, the Deed is doing an effect along with regular damage. When any...

#6 is not out yet -- it has been uploaded for backers of the original Kickstarter. The physical copies will ship in August and PDFs will be available then. There will be a #7, a #8, etc. It is unknown whether there will be a new Kickstarter, but you can always extend your subscription by paying for ...

Re: Who's playing?

It reads to me much more like a straight-on fantasy story than a post-apocalyptic one... it's not set in a radioactive wasteland with rampant mutation. Sure there's some old technology, but hardly MCC levels of lost tech. It's got demons, and even if they are created by mutation, as they appear is a...

Re: DCC Day 2021 Adventure Pack

Is it possible that if enough people put up money up-front for the module, they'd buy in the DCC Day Kit? Maybe two or three folks in your gaming group making that commitment would be enough to push them over the edge and jump in...? Heck.. if that was an option, I'd pay for it myself! (Is it an op...

Re: MCC Printings?

The only part of that which I can address is that it's unlikely for there to be an "expanded" version. Corrected, yes; expanded contents (beyond maybe the included adventure), no -- not if the past decade of GG printing history is anything to go by. DCC has not been expanded, and I would b...

Re: DCC Day 2021 Adventure Pack

Only the covers were different on the black & gold version and the one released yesterday. The interiors are identical. Exactly right, except that it wasn't "released" for DCC Day, but has been out for awhile (just as long as the Skull version). There was a print run that was part San...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC

I do hope it's helpful. Control dice as a concept opens up A LOT of possibilities when you start looking at different combinations. It's always floating there in my mind, because back when the only 20-siders were numbered 0-9 twice, using a control die to give you high/low was how I first learned to...

Re: Help Blending B/X into DCC

To take the curve out of the d6 and have it scale larger for, um, whatever reason in your game that you'd roll 3d6, etc., use a control die. I'll briefly explain control dice, in case it's unfamiliar... You know how percentiles work. Now look at it this way: One percentile die is telling you which &...

Re: Wizard/Elf Wants a Lower Spell Result

I believe there are multiple references to magic being difficult and dangerous. Many other games treat magical casting as a science that's been perfected. DCC treats it as something that can never be fully understood and every interaction as potentially more harmful to the caster than whatever they ...

...in a game like DCC, work and luck are supposed to pay off. There it is, in a nutshell. It also draws a clear distinction between Clerics and Wizards: • Clerics serve at the behest of their Gods. • Wizards plot and scheme and vie for power for themselves. If it seems like your Wizard is getting b...

Re: Wizard Spells

Couldn't a player theoretically just advance his Wizard to level 5, learn one 3rd level spell... This reads like the player is just deciding to make their Wizard 5th Level. That of course does not happen. But it does mean I can't quite understand the question. There are a number of Known Spells, an...

Re: How long do torches and lanterns burn in DCC?

I have a 30 minute hourglass on my gaming table. This is how long your torch will last. In game time, this represent a variable amount of turns but I find it works really well by putting the players themselves under pressure. « As you debate what you do next, you can see that your torch starts to f...

The creators and movers and shakers rarely visit the fan forums anymore... So if you're looking for a reply from them, it's unlikely unless they happen to wander in and see the post. Since they're here rarely, when they do visit there must be a LOT of unread posts, so they may just stick to whatever...

Re: Upper Level Caster Creation Idea

When I created some pre-gens at 4th Level for online Cons, I just assumed the Wizards would all have corruption. I don't remember how I set how much, but they each wound up with like from 4 to 7 examples of corruption... Maybe an easier system would be you have a [Level]-in-5 chance of having 1d4 co...
