BTB, Spellburn happens only before the roll is made. But Luck can be burned before or after...

Re: Wizard/Elf Wants a Lower Spell Result

I believe there are multiple references to magic being difficult and dangerous. Many other games treat magical casting as a science that's been perfected. DCC treats it as something that can never be fully understood and every interaction as potentially more harmful to the caster than whatever they ...

Re: Wizard Spells

...in a game like DCC, work and luck are supposed to pay off. There it is, in a nutshell. It also draws a clear distinction between Clerics and Wizards: • Clerics serve at the behest of their Gods. • Wizards plot and scheme and vie for power for themselves. If it seems like your Wizard is getting b...

Re: Wizard Spells

Couldn't a player theoretically just advance his Wizard to level 5, learn one 3rd level spell... This reads like the player is just deciding to make their Wizard 5th Level. That of course does not happen. But it does mean I can't quite understand the question. There are a number of Known Spells, an...

Re: How long do torches and lanterns burn in DCC?

I have a 30 minute hourglass on my gaming table. This is how long your torch will last. In game time, this represent a variable amount of turns but I find it works really well by putting the players themselves under pressure. « As you debate what you do next, you can see that your torch starts to f...

Re: Road Crew 2021 Poster: Okay, here's my best guess.

The creators and movers and shakers rarely visit the fan forums anymore... So if you're looking for a reply from them, it's unlikely unless they happen to wander in and see the post. Since they're here rarely, when they do visit there must be a LOT of unread posts, so they may just stick to whatever...

Re: Upper Level Caster Creation Idea

When I created some pre-gens at 4th Level for online Cons, I just assumed the Wizards would all have corruption. I don't remember how I set how much, but they each wound up with like from 4 to 7 examples of corruption... Maybe an easier system would be you have a [Level]-in-5 chance of having 1d4 co...

Not sure where you're getting the idea that only Thieves and Halflings get Action Dice for skill checks -- all skill checks are resolved with Action dice.... check out page 77, second column.

Re: Megadungeons

I've never seen a clear explanation of *why* some people think DCC won't work for long campaigns, but I have my suspicions... Such as, if you're the type of GM who wants to plan out what's happening in "month three" of a campaign before you've even begun the campaign, DCC is not going to w...

Re: Q: How do you handle 0 to 1st level transition?

I've run Sailors at least 8 or 9 times... with a couple of those, it felt epicly appropriate to level up as the boat approaches the little island. IIRC, I gave spellcasters 1 or 2 spells, randomly determined.

They got the rest between adventures.

Re: Q: How do you handle 0 to 1st level transition?

Many, many folks have stumbled over that exact "and they suddenly are a Wizard?" moment... The easiest solution is to frame it along the lines of: they have studied weird stuff for however long makes sense to you, and that THAT huge TRAUMATIC experience with the SUPERNATURAL (the Funnel ad...

Re: quick & dirty sense of magic types: black; elemental; enchantment; idol

For myself, I don't think there a need for hard and fast categories. I will focus when running on the individual NPCs and focus on *how* they are casting, or what trappings they use or are surrounded by. If there are 98 Wizards across the World, then there are 98 ways of accessing magical power; som...

Re: q&d sense of magic types: black; elemental; enchantment; idol

I could comment on many of your points, but the essence would be this: you're taking text which is meant to be evocative and treating it as being denotative. Just as the text in an Appendix N short story might *suggest* that someone experimenting with magic is tapping into forces bigger than they re...

Re: How long for an order to ship from the store?

Hmmm... the general contact e-mail is info@ -- if you're e-mailing a name, maybe it's not going to the right person, or that person is thinking they are being cc'd and it's not just them that's getting it, and if it's not their 'department' so to speak, they aren't replying...? Hard to say for sure ...

This is the fan forum, so direct contact is your best bet... however, maybe I can fill in some blanks. Let's review... A question was asked in a space on the forum which is designed as a starting point for new players. Oh yeah, multicolored is definitely another way to go! The only reason that (most of) my DCC dice are all of a color is because most of what's been sold has been one-color sets.
