Re: Collecting DCCs

I don't know of anything formalized for that... When I've wanted to asses the worth of something, I've just looked at completed eBay listings and paid attention to only the ones that actually sold for a sense of how much something was really worth -- and then taken that with a grain of salt given th...

Re: New versions of old mods

I've actually run Sellswords of Punjar -- a 4e mod -- using the DCC RPG. A few scribbled notes, which I expanded upon each time I've run it, is all I needed because DCC is a very forgiving rule set.

I have considered running some 3e era modules, too, just haven't actually done it yet...

Re: Word of Command, Lotus Stare = Suicide

I think you are interpreting those correctly. Whether they are "death spells" is pretty circumstantial... Low-level success for Word of Command only lasts 1+ rounds, and the target may not be able to complete the command before they snap out of it. The "self-destructive" element ...

Re: Backerkit question

So the Lankhmar boxed set KS was well before my time, I am the guy that's punching the buttons on BackerKit currently... BackerKit has many points where the project manager can click a box that says "I'm done with this step" -- which is completely independent from whether you've done it or...

Re: Tips for thieves

First thing I always ask when I hear that the Thief in the party is not measuring up -- how easy do you make it to get into position for a Backstab? I try to be as generous as possible when allowing a sneak silent check or other events going on in the melee to allow the thief a Backstab attempt. Som...

Re: Throwing a ball of force (Force Manipulation spell)

I still think I might skip the extra roll if it's a one shot with new players just to encourage creativity. I know... I'm too nice. Oh, a one-shot is muchly a different animal... I once had someone in a one-shot spout off a rule about lost spells so convincingly I just went with it, even thou...

Re: find and remove traps

Again, there's no flat rule I employ -- depends on the nature of the 'secretness' of the door. Is it just hidden behind a curtain? Is it magically camouflaged? Is it a bookcase that spins? These are all different effects that different people might have different aptitudes for detecting...

Re: Throwing a ball of force (Force Manipulation spell)

I actually rule it the other way, that you have to throw it with an attack roll. Because you can hurl it, but you don't have to hurl it, you could do something else with it (like, use it to stop a door from completely closing or something). If you could somehow "telekinetically" make it fl...

I guess the other option is to re-skin the flying chaos monkeys into being trained ravens or or the like. But if you haven't already, I'd suggest you look at Moon Slaves of the Cannibal Kingdom, which sketches out ties to 10 or 12 other adventures, perhaps existing within that sought-after area betw...

Re: Need help with my campaign!

Maybe some of the Fifth Edition Fantasy adventures? Less over the top, maybe...

I can't think of any non-over the top DCC adventures, since that's kind of the signature style. Might need to look at adventures for OSR games to convert.

Re: Color Spray spell keeps winning battles

I had a question earlier in the thread about the "reset" time... Like, does spellburn reset between adventures? If so, that makes spellburn MUCH more potent and has less of a limiting factor than intended. Are there dependable gaps of time between adventures in which to recover from spellb...

Re: Ghouls easier to hit?

It's deeper in the stat block. They're harder to hit at range, but easier to hit in melee. I'm not sure why appearing as a skeleton, but not being a skeleton would make you easier to hit -- unless the concept is "you're aiming for the skeleton, and you might miss the skeleton -- but then hit th...

And the d14 and d16 are viable alternatives for skill checks, too, if the circumstances seem right.
