Re: Books arrived...now I am pissed!

Hmm . . What is the mature way to handle this? A) Call/email CS and calmly tell them the problem and give them a chance to correct it, or B) get pissed and rant on the message boards? Some folk parted with a lot of money so they could own a nice ' limited edition'. The standard copy, is probably th...

Re: DCC is DDNext

Sorry but D&D Next will be nothing like DCC RPG. DCC is a re-imaging of D&D and D&D Next is a best of edition of the game. Of course there will be similarities but that is because both are drawing on almost 40 years of D&D history in one way or another. DCC is a good game in its own ...

Re: Gary Gygax wrote my gaming manifesto back in 1975.

Here is a quote from the November 1982 Dragon Magazine by Mr. Gygax (#67 p.64). Adding non-official material puts your game outside the D&D or AD&D game system. It becomes something else at best. Far too often, extraneous material tinkered onto the existing D&D or AD&D campaign will ...

Spell Formatting

So far my only disappointment with the final rules is the formatting of the spells. I really liked the way the sample spell (flaming hands) was released. It is contained to one page with no other spells on it and even had a nice piece of art. It would be nice if each spell was contained to one page ...

Re: Corruption

I have heard that but the playtesrs are saying that the final rules are virtually identical to the beta rules. Well ... they are essentially the same from a global "big picture" perspective. The main philosophy and major mechanics really haven't changed much. That's not to say that indivi...

Spell misfires mutate in Dying Earth? I haven't read those books? But yes I was going more for a Conan theme.

If you're only going by the Beta rules, you really need to know that corruption has been greatly toned down in the published book. It's been mentioned several times around here in various threads... Corruption

I didn't like the weird mutation stuff from the beta rules on corruption. A new sword & sorcery D&D variant was just released that handles the negative effects of magic in a different way. You start with a sanity score equal to wisdom (I.e. DCC could use personality) then when you cast a spe...

Unarmored Warriors

An interesting idea came up in the Classic Modules thread. To simulate the unarmored warrior (like Conan in some stories). If a Warrior doesn't wear armor than him AC is equal to his agility. It would give a moderate to high agility unarmored warrior a fighting chance. What do you think? How about o...

Re: Classic Modules

I'm a little disappointed at this. What's the reasoning? Seeing that level threshold table felt like coming home. --Tonik I felt betrayed by this too. But the XP system is a lot less granular now. Instead of 800 to 1200 XP for 2nd-level, it's more like 50. So it's almost silly to have one class lev...

Re: Classic Modules

I really like the agility = AC when not wearing armor. I am going to have to think about this but it sounds good since the scale would fit well and it gives you more benefit from agility when not wearing armor (which makes sense).

Re: Classic Modules

One thing I am wondering about DCC is will it be able to simulate the lightly/non-armored warrior by the rules? Many warriors in Appendix N only wore very light or no armor and relied on dodging, parrying and skill for not getting hit. The recent Myth and Magic retroclone/simulacrum has a wonderful...

Re: Classic Modules

Thanks for the info. Confirmation that the 5 levels didn’t get stretched to 10 levels helps a great deal on knowing what the final rules look like. I asked about the action die but I was really talking about the attack die for warriors (and similar dice for others). Based on your post I would expect...

Re: Classic Modules

What about attack die progression for warriors (and similar dice for other classes)? Did the d3 to d7 progression get stretched to 10 levels? Or does it top out at d7 at 5th? Or does it continue to progress after 5th? Do you still need an exact 20 (with bonuses) to crit for attacks using something o...

Re: Classic Modules

My nephews will be over Wednesday night and I was hoping to play a one-off of the new rules with them. There are very little differences between how the BETA and the full release plays. Especially for a one-shot. The full release really only expands what's in the beta. The full game plays the same....

Re: Classic Modules

Just shooting an idea out there... Sounds like you should write it for a CRAWL! article instead! I have to say, "house rules" from the get-go of the release are not my boat (especially from the game designer, as I'd assume the game would be as the designer intended it when released). Reme...

Re: Classic Modules

That is not a bad method. I have also seen a house rule method for pre-3e D&D where each time you gain a level you can choose one stat to attempt to increase. You then roll 3d6 and if you roll higher than your current score it increases by one. It makes it easy to increase low scores and very ha...

Re: Classic Modules

So, could an original DCC module (the ones that came out before the DCC rpg) and the old classics like Tomb of Horrors etc, be run using the DCC Rpg, or does the DCC Rpg enforce a different kind of vibe/atmosphere? For the most part the game doesn’t really enforce a weird tone/vibe. The system is a...
