Re: Atributes for non-human races (?)
Boo stereotypes. My favourite characters are dim-witted Elves or gregarious Dwarfs. Just my two cents!

Re: Surprise
I feel surprise should carry through the entire battle, and the defenders should never really be able to recover from the shock. In my OD&D games (using d6 group initiative rolled only once at the beginning of combat), surprise would allow the attacker to forgo the opposed initiative roll and th...

Re: Killing the Cleric (and a few others)
Why not just play the Thief as-is, and allow him a steady stream of scrolls to read? You could even allow him to burn luck on reading scrolls, making him a very competent magician (even without spell burn). Alternately, let him memorize one spell per day and cast with his Read Scroll die? There are ...

Re: Levelling Up
For anyone interested, here is the mono-chart I am using for formal training right now. Simply pick the right die for the class, modify it according to the type of institution and roll on the chart. The values are balanced so good and bad effects will happen for each class, and each class should be ...

Re: Levelling Up
I track EP's during the session, then hand them out at the end (with bonus random awards like MVP and "best crit"... whatever I feel like). I also let the players jockey, bargain and haggle for more EP's. They can then level up and adjust their character sheets if they have enough. Coming ...

Not smart. DriveThruRPG tags all of its PDF's with order numbers and names. It is easily traceable back to the culprit.

Very cool! How much scifi influence is there in the setting, practically speaking? I like the post apocalyptic theme you have going!

Re: Thief Skills
Echoing Raven, the Thief has a Luck ability. My instinct is to let him use it - if you allow rerolls, then this ability is devalued. Some of the best in-game moments come when players have to decide if/what and how much they will sacrifice for something (like Luck, regardless of your character class).

Re: Please review my Monk class
Personally, my own personal solution if I wanted to play a Monk would be to play a Warrior with Monk flavoring, but that's just me... I think that's a difference between the AD&D and BD&D philosophies. To me, the difference between a new Monk class (which works like a Warrior) or playing a ...

I would just have the magic items show up later, just lying by the side of the road as the players pass by. BTW, @goodman: Will there be pregens included for the demo players, or should I whip some up for this?

Re: Please review my Monk class
I really like it, kudos 8bit. My only complaints would be the Mighty Deeds thing slightly steps on the Warrior's toes, and the class is a little TOO detailed. If I had to make a slimmed down, rules-light version (more to the taste of my gaming table), I would say: Monk Hit Dice: 1d8 (No change here)...

Re: Interview with Joseph Goodman
A 64 page version of DCC would be great. I think you could squeeze the classes (level 0 to level 2) onto 10 pages and 6 pages for equipment and combat rules. You could drop corruption and unnecessary spell levels so that Misfire + Casting Results (up to 25 or so) fit one page per spell. 8 Wizard Spe...

Very cool! When I get a free moment, I will probably use this as inspiration to make my own custom sheet. In that spot under "Equipment of Note" on the Warrior sheet, can you put a shield outline for heraldry or maybe a portrait box?

I wrote a mini-review based just on reading the module:

Not to worry, it is basically spoiler free (which I realized is very difficult to do when writing a review!).

While it may diverge form the topic being discussed, I’ll like to ask you why do you think DCC RPG's design theory is different from Castles & Crusades, Sword & Wizardry, etc.? I ask this because your comment reminded me of one post I read at Grognardia ( http://grognardia.blogspot.com/2012...

Where the problem to be addressed is that "DCCRPG feels unnecessarily clunky and complex and I am having trouble explaining it to new players," it is simply not helpful to respond with "DCC RPG (and by extension, me) is hardcore--a system for people who can handle flawed characters a...

Re: DCC RPG- having problems getting it to work for me/us.
I agree with Stainless and Ogrepuppy completely. Check the priorities of your group before selecting the right system. If they want to "win Dungeons & Dragons," choose one of the recent versions of the game that encourages this playstyle (it is completely incompatible with earlier edit...
