Re: "Limiting" Corruption

The only thing I am against is making some spells PERFECTLY SAFE to cast. Not even Cantrip. Not even a Torch Spell. At least a 1 on the d20 should be something that the wizard is scared of no matter what he's casting. If you don't like corruption then fair enough, add the mishaps like it has just b...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption

It fails 40+% of the time. That's crazy. What tool do you use of a continuing basis that fails outright ... 40% of the time? Magic is so unreliable only stark raving mad lunatics should be involved in it. Rational people don't devote their livelihoods to something with such low odds. While not perf...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption

The real problem with magic now is it doesn't make sense for a sane person to get involved with it. If you have a tool that fails on average 40% of the time for competently trained individual why would you ever rely on such a tool? You would be that crazy? (40% equal 1st level wizard with 16 Int (o...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

I'd allow Transmutation to be split in 2, maybe spells that affect yourself are White, if you mess with other people's body they're Black magic. (this way, if a Wiz wants to really be useful and cast "Bull's Strength" equivalent spell on the Warrior, he'd have to risk corruption!) To be A...

Re: Dumb idea: Two types of arcane magic

I preface this as a "dumb idea" because I suspect that there will be a number of posters who will cite "realism" and thereby dislike it. Bear with me.... What if there are fundamentally two main types of arcane magic. (By "arcane" I mean wizard magic; toss out clerics ...

Re: Critical Hits with dice other than d20

Yes, but it is picking a magic number that may not be possible for you to hit which I'm guessing is by design. Unless you have a +4 attack bonus or higher you are choosing to give up the ability to get critical hits if you dual wield. Yes, a choice. Such a terrible thing to contemplate. :) I don't ...

Re: Dice: generating "Zocchi results" using "normal" polyhed

+d9 :) Although writing R/15 onto the surface of d20 requires impeccable handwriting that I would lack. You could leave all the "R" sides blank and then reroll if you get a blank... The only problem I see with the blank dice thing is determining which one is a d7 and which one is a d8. Ot...

Re: Zocchi DIce Poll

I agree there should be a "DCC RPG Box Set" (or some such) which includes a set of the Zocchi dice. Price it reasonably, say $10 US over the cost of the book alone. I've got no clue about the actual costs of publishing so take this with a grain of salt. I wouldn't mind seeing a DCC RPG St...

Re: Would you use the DCC RPG for long term campaign play ?

I think in its current state, there is a lot to be desired. I really hope the end-game has more to offer for the DM in terms of campaign play. I'm not sure what that'd look like at the moment, but I know I want it. +d% ( take that you Thief skill haters ) I see a lot of potential in the game for lo...

Re: Zocchi DIce Poll

I'm not sure how to vote, either. I already own a couple of sets, but I'm likely to buy more. I don't want to pay over $20 for a set of dice, but I've done so before if I like them. I'm really hoping for more choices soon. If I get them, I'll pay whatever is reasonable for them. Keep in mind that p...

Re: Critical Hits with dice other than d20

There have been several threads about this and no official answer that I'm aware of. I pointed out on a thread that rolling exactly 20 on a d16 just picks different magic number (whether it is 16 because you have a +4 bonus or 13 because you have a +7 bonus). So that rule by itself doesn't make sen...

Re: Options for non-mages

No, I don't want to gimp them. A warrior currently starts with 7 I suggest having a longer list, maybe 15 or 20. They can pick 7 start with, plus a style, and get more as they advance. A wizads spells get better as the wizard advances, and the wizard get's new spells but a warior, sure his MFoA get...

Re: Weapons: Two-Handed Sword, X-bows, and Equalizing Damage

That kind of reminds me of weapon damage in the 1st edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. Unfortunately, I gave my copy away years ago but I seem to remember that they had a couple of really broad categories for weapons and every thing in a category did the same damage. It kept things simple but en...

Re: Options for non-mages

Suggestion: Add more Mighty Feats of Arms to Warrior, Dwarf, and halfling, BUT, they only start with some number of them, and pick more as they advance. Add ones to let you get flavor to your class, Mounted Combat (knight), Rage (Barbarian), Woodland Combat (ranger), etc. This negates the need for ...

Good catch. The description of Stamina in the stats chapter seems to elude to it but I can't find anywhere that specifically calls out adding your Stamina bonus to anything but your 0 level HP.

Or you let them do it, give them a couple of days to recover so they are at -8 ( or 18 ) instead of -10 ( or 20 ) and then spring something on them.

Appendix N is full of adventure inflicting itself upon characters.

One thing I've found is that dropping it rather than throwing it with any sort of horizontal force seems to make the results more equitable. (I stress the word seems because it is a purely anecdotal observation) Also, to gain confidence in it's fairness, you could always test it using this method: ...

D5 kind of sucks.

The mailman just showed up with my GameScience 5pc. Zocchi pack. The d5 seems a bit less than random. The large faces on the die are numbered 1 and 5 and seem to come up more frequently than the numbers on the edges. I'm going to have a hard time using this instead of just rolling a d10 and subtract...

A wizard is using the patron as a source of power to attain their own goals. The wizard may have some overlapping goals with the patron but ultimately doesn't see the patron's goals as anything but bargaining chips. A cleric on the other hand exists to spread the power of their deity and will seek t...

Re: Corruption and Spell Fumble

You could assign a corruption die to every spell. Order the chart so that the highest results are worse than the lower results. The size of the die would be a little subjective and be based on things like spell level, how much the spell alters reality, whether the spell does damage, etc. This could...
