Re: Warriors and MDoA's

I am hoping that the rules provide fairly regiours guid lines about what each level of an MDoA can do. Something like this: 3+: only an action or a move, can't combine both. Cannot cause any effect that would last more than a single round. The highest penaltiy that can be bestowed is 1d3 4+: Only s...

Re: Ego Ideals and Player Characters...

For the truly imaginative, role playing games are an opportunity to meet heroes, to become more like actual heroic versions of ourselves than we might otherwise have access to in the world of “reality” television and its superficial, tacky role-models. And maybe, just maybe, that’s the real reason ...

Re: Christmas comes early but not early enough

I'm a grown man with a job and responsibilities. Yet I feel like Christmas is two days away and Joseph won't let me have any presents early. :D I have been seeking a real swords & sorcery D&D experience for the last few years. I love Pathfinder but my players are using rules that cover 1,16...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Not with my experince, I have seen entire campaigns end becuase of a long and heated argument over what a player can or can't do occur between player and GM, especially when the survival of a character or campaign plot hinges on how something is ruled, either a GM or a player can get pretty bent ou...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

I'd much rather risk arguements than have something so dry and limiting though. If you go this route you completely remove the magic and mystique from the MDoA. The last thing we need is another rules-bloated D20-type system where everything has been systemized and nothing is left to the imaginatio...

Re: The beta rules will be available...

As far as actual content goes, the main "space drain" is the spells. The easiest way to PLAY with spells is to have one spell per page, but it's not the most efficient way to lay them out (eats up lots of space). But in every game where we've used the "efficient layouts," the pl...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

The rules include guidelines on what a disarm means if the warrior rolls a 3, a 4, a 5, etc. on his second die; what a blinding attack means in similar circumstances, what a bull rush means, and so on. A blinding attack with a 3 means you just throw sand in his eyes or smack him in the forehead or ...

Re: Aereth reboot for DCC RPG?

Well, I got to read the adventure starter and it refrenced Aereth so, sounds like they plan to stick with that setting at least initially. But I agree, a full setting just for DCCRPG would be really cool, and it should defenintly be a box set, no pdf nonsense. I'd vote for (and purchase) a boxed se...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels

Well, I am more of a fan of DnD basic, which I thought went up to the 30's. I suspect we aren't talking about the same game. Basic D&D went from levels 1 to 3. It came in three versions: Holmes, Moldvay, and Mentzer (authors). Basic D&D was followed by Expert D&D (levels 4-15; C...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

But the quote says: Interesting. The DM should add his own roll of the same MDoA die to the fumble chart (assuming the results get nastier the higher the fumble roll). 1st level warrior rolls a fumble while doing an MDoA. DM adds d3 to the fumble chart roll. 6th level warrior rolls a fumble etc DM ...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Interesting. The DM should add his own roll of the same MDoA die to the fumble chart (assuming the results get nastier the higher the fumble roll). That would mean that a fumble potentially has more dire effects for a higher level warrior because of the larger range on the dice e.g. 1-3 for a level...

Re: Grappling in DCC?

how about this: Every character has subdual damage "hps" equal to their con score. If they take subdual damge equal to or geater than their con (um, I mean, stamina) than they pass out for d14 hours or something like that. But, only certain weapons can deal subdual damage. There is no deal...

Re: [Design Question] DCC RPG and 10 Levels

Perhaps I over stated with the term demi god :P but basically, I liked that there were three stages in the level system that felt different. It seemed like once you hit level 3 or 4, you felt a little safer, you werent likely to die from a single crossbow bolt to the chest any more. From 4 to about...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

I am still a little confused about how this works exactly. As i understand it, the process is: 1: decalre your attacl and your mighty deed of arms before rolling to hit 2: roll action dice (d20) +bonus die (based on level) +other mods from magic and strength 3: if total equals or beats ac you hit, 4...

Re: Warriors and MDoA's

Also, if the MDoA reqires a succesful hit in addition to rolling 3+, than even a 75 percent chanch at level 6 will still fail to activate about half the time. If you used precentile dice for both rolls, its like you have to roll 50 percent or less (on average for a fighter, im assuming), and than y...

Re: DCC RPG Game day

Frankly, in this market I wonder if any RPG will ever really "take off" the way some of the old ones did. There are just so many options nowadays that this tends to slice up the fanbase so many ways. Back in the 1970's when RPGs were pretty new, every game seemed like an amazing innovatio...

Re: what game is most like the DCC RPG?

I have to admit, combat in DnD basic is little more than taking turns rolling d20's and hoping you hit before you get hit. I agree and disagree here. I think it depends on the DM and the players. But a lot on the DM. We played a short LotFP (Basic D&D retro-clone) game recently and the players ...

my BnN has a small selection of role playing stuff. Mostly DnD, some shadow run, gurbs, and even warhammer fantasy role play, both current and, when it was in prent, the previous edition. It also has a couple books from osprey publishing for historical wargaming (field of glory) and modern wargaming...

Re: Adventure! What kind will you run for DCC?

Drat. I missed that set because I was still playing OD&D and AD&D and didn't keep up with the newer editions of D&D. Guess I'll have to haunt e-bay for it. :( Well, if you were full swing into ADnD this product would have seemd odd. The rules are more watered down and uses the "elf...
