Just a few ideas: Remember the good old days when... Elf was a class No one knew how many hit points or what vulnerabilities the monster had You didn't need a Cray supercomputer to create a player character Your character could die in the blink of an eye We rolled 3d6 in order Magic was mysterious a...

Re: Dave Arneson's Blackmoor Core Campaign Book
I'm not really familiar with it, but generally speaking, d20/3E stuff is going to be more readily usable with DCC.
Personally, if I wanted to do Blackmoor, I'd use the old Judges Guild First Fantasy Campaign book, but that is purely a matter of taste.

Also, if you rule that a natural 20 succeeds, there is a 5% chance, which is still better than a character with average strength's chances to "bend bars/lift gates" in AD&D.

Re: Just modules?
I have a standing order at my game store for all DCC modules. If you are interested in supporting Goodman, I'd recommend doing something similar. One thing you may not be aware of is that the modules often have new game content in them in the form of new spells, patrons, and other doo-dads. There ar...

Re: Who holds the spell charts - GM or PC?
As much as I would love to maintain an air of mystery around spellcasting, I simply wouldn't find it practical for me to handle all the spell chart lookups. Players handle it in my games, and if they're being pokey about it, I go to the next person and come back to them.

Re: Which campaign setting would be best for DCC?
As much as I'm a a 'big map' fan, I think DCC is particularly suited for the concept of starting very local with only white space and legend in every direction. Then you can steal like crazy from every resource imaginable as the map gets filled in as the campaign develops. :) I agree one billion pe...

Re: Classic D&D Modules
Plan on segueing current campaign into G1-2-3 in the near future. The party has their own castle now, so it should be easy to hook them in by having them come home to find all their stuff smashed up with boulders and some giant footprints heading off to the northwest...

Re: How are you converting old Dnd modules to DCC?
Conversion is more of an art than a science, but here are some general guidelines I tend to follow, as I do conversion on the fly: Attack bonus = HD Save bonus = 1/2 HD I believe AD&D assumes d8 for monster HD, but don't be afraid to use d10 or d12, since DCC guys are way stronger. It's really n...

Re: Making DCC Accessible
I think a negligible number of people get into tabletop RPGs by picking up a book and teaching themselves. Perhaps it was more common when you could get a D&D basic set at K-Mart or whatever, but these days not so much. Most people learn to play by playing with other people that already know how...

Re: Do we need War rules?
From some of the reading I've done (not actual play), Kings of War by Mantic Games seems like it would be a good bolt-on system. It's short and simple, free, and pretty much all you'd have to figure out is which type of hero units to convert the PCs to (and be totally okay with the possibility of th...
