Re: To Mini Or Not To Mini
P.S. - I really like the idea of using minis but no grid. In my games I think its the square-counting that really slows things down more than anything else. I think I'll try that tomorrow!

Re: Loot=XP
If a unified XP table is used, I tend to grant levels without counting XP. However, I let the players know what actions influenced my decision. For example, "you guys did a really good job milking this level of treasure while avoiding a lot of trouble and playing smart, so I'm granting a level....

Monster Resources for those Still Tinkering with DCC
Just a few monster resources I've been using with great success. Any 3E monster books work great (free stats available at d20srd.org ) Pathfinder monster books (Bestiary and Bestiary 2) are what I've been using most lately. These also work great. (free stats available at d20pfsrd.com ) The only issu...

Re: To Mini Or Not To Mini
I've played both with and without, and found it to work equally well both ways, it is simply a matter of preference. Sometimes we play with full-blown 3E-style combat, sometimes more abstract mini use, and sometimes we just don't use them at all.

16 DCC Level Zeroes vs. Pathfinder Level 1 Adventure
I recently ran Paizo's free We Be Goblins module with a group of four players each controlling four level-0 DCC characters. It was awesome fun, and I highly recommend it. My report is here: http://peoplethemwithmonsters.blogspot.com/2011/09/loads-of-free-fun.html The verdict: Pathfinder level 1 adve...

Re: Links to DCC RPG Resources, updated 6/24
Added a one-page doc that gives you attack bonuses and save bonuses based on a monster's type and number of hit dice. Useful in conjunction with old AD&D monster books.

Re: 3d6, in order
Joseph wants ZERO customization I don't buy that. I think we are encouraged to try the game that way before discarding that method for something else, especially during beta testing, but ultimately, once a person buys the book, they can do whatever the hell they want with the rules in their home ga...

Re: Unique Spells... for clerics too!
I agree. Clerics should definitely be given unique spells based on their deity. The concept of cleric domains in the SRD is worth lifting, and I fully intend to use it in my games. The cleric in my game has the fire domain, and as a result has access to some damage-dealing wizardish spells like burn...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
I'm going to give corruption a shot as-is in campaign play, but there will be plenty of outs in case it gets out of hand. I suspect that I will modify it for campaign play eventually, and here is what popped in my head: Corruption: Permanent effect to the caster - can possibly be undone, but not wit...

Re: Inking Dice
I used that same method, with reaper master series paint. It works good for most of the dice, but it stinks for the ones with shallower numbers, such as the d24, as your finger will pull out all of the paint and you have to try again like 5 times. I've since switched to using cheap non-washable cray...

Re: "Limiting" Corruption
You would be the greatest hitter who ever lived if you only failed 40% of the time at bat. Heck, you would be the greatest hitter if you succeeded 40% of the time at bat. I was actually going to point this out. The difference between baseball and the spells is baseball is not life or death. It's a ...

Re: Homebrew Spells and Conversions
Thanks for taking a look. I like those suggestions. I'll change Flame of the Forge to a ranged touch attack and remove the saving throw. For prayer, I totally forgot about that alignment thing, as alignment is something we usually ignore in our games, but in this case, it makes sense. My only conce...

Re: Homebrew Spells and Conversions
Thanks to everyone who's shared their spells so far. As far as people discouraging us monkeying with spells, well, that's just silly. The beta rules obviously are incomplete when it comes to spells, so I consider this activity pretty much necessary if you want to mess around in the higher levels. At...

Re: Critical Hits with dice other than d20
For dual-wielding, you can crit and that is specifically spelled out, and there are exceptions for the halfling who can crit on a 16. However, when a Warrior (or other class) gets multiple attacks (multiple action dice), I would rule that the second attack cannot crit due to the fact that d14's and ...

Re: Warrior titles.
Just dropping in to voice my support of the level titles. I like them a lot. For players that have never played an older style game before, I think it gives them a signal telling them, "Oh, I can take this warrior and outfit him and play him like a barbarian or a paladin. I guess we don't actua...

Re: Funky Dice & Weapon Damage?
In my game, I plan to increment the damage die rather than giving out the standard +1, +2, etc. weapons. For example, you could have a magic bow that does d7 or d8 instead of d6. A magic dagger that does d5, etc. Other ideas include adding d3 lightning damage to a weapon, etc. I think anything that ...

Re: Free RPG Day: Pod-Caverns Under DCC RPG Rules
I don't think I wrote this anywhere in the beta rules, but I penalize low-Luck characters with, well, unlucky events. For example: * When they encounter the unintelligent animal in the dungeon, it always charges the character with the lowest luck. * Every so often they trip and fall on a flagstone....
