Re: mountain king

Oro Loroth is the Mountain King. He's a nasty dwarf who wrought some Hell on another dwarf clan (the Dronil) back in the day. Now he's a feared warlord with a petty kingdom and an army to back him up, and (if you can believe some of the modules out recently) a nasty plan for his neighbors. His symbo...

Re: New Found Fan

Brandon, Checking my final draft with the published module, it looks like the copper sheets (which were in a nifty room with animated skulls and some magical treasure) were excised along with the "old" area 1-4 from the module during final editing. That made the "old" area 1-5 th...

I believe that is, indeed, the plan (if my email inbox is any indication). The tournament modules almost-always come out a year after they are played at GenCon. Speaking of...some of the backstory for this year's tournament is posted here: http://www.goodman-games.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=20&t...

Re: Year Six Tournament: Scroll of Ruin

PART EIGHT: AFTERMATH The Dabistan Rassad was a ruin after the fight. With no teachers left alive, the students took what they fancied and left, stripping its halls bare of most of its opulence. As the Abylossian Empire tore itself apart, there were few who preoccupied themselves with what had happe...

Re: Year Six Tournament: Scroll of Ruin

PART SEVEN: DOWNFALL By the time Akad knew the extent of Yash'ar Aref's ambition - and what he planned to sacrifice to achieve it - the efendi had already begun intoning the Scroll of Ruin. There was no time to plan and no time to summon help. It was act or perish. The Thirty and the simurgh assault...

PART SIX: OPPOSITION Yash'ar Aref-efendi gain tremendous influence in the Dabistan Rassad. Those who feared death, he placated with promises of life eternal (as had been promised him). Those who craved gold, he bought with star-wrought wonders. Those who desired knowledge, he tempted with secrets wh...

They threatened to drown him in the waste trench (oh my goodness! What an intimidation bonus!) That's like a +4 sewage bonus to Intimidate checks. Sewage bonuses stack nicely. They were offered the catamaran, but they were so terrified of the sea-drake that they opted for the landbridge. [cue the e...

Re: Malicious website sent to me in PM

We do a good job of scraping them off the board like the human barnacles they are, but it's a constant arms race between updating security and them getting better at what they do. AFAIK, no board is too small for their auto-dialed notice. I'm on one with about 12 members and we get (different) spam ...

Re: Castle Whiterock: Trollhound companion question?

I hope with such a large group you're scaling the encounters to match them, otherwise they'll cake-walk through the entire dungeon. Beyond the prep-work of scaling, feel free to ad-lib as necessary to make the encounters challenging to your party: have reinforcements arrive, "spot" a bad g...

You could try Reaper's ghoul king: http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/02718.

It's pretty naked, but not as naked as the re-sculpt of the same mini.

Re: Are There Mythical Creatures in D&D...?

In my home game I had a Godzilla-like ice creature called Dommerkaldtadvokat (yup, a mouthful). In 4E parlance it would be an abomination in the vein of the tarrasque, I guess, but it was always unclear whether it showed up to fight horrible threats to The World or if it was a horrible threat to The...

PART FIVE: THE PASSAGE Using the Bridge to the Heavens, Yash'ar Aref-efendi calculated the time when Aubaridan Ahktar would most fully focus its unblinking gaze on the lands of the Known World, decreeing that moment would be the world's last. PART FOUR: DEVOURING STAR In the place which is at once beyond the stars and between them, there waits a power incomprehensible to the rational mind. Utterly alien, Aubaridan Ahktar has been observed before. The tortoise-like falsoom of the pre-draconic world wrote of an all-consumer known as "...

Re: 1st Level Adventure

Syffin, the first thing you should think about is what kind of game you want to run.

Forges is a pretty classic dungeon crawl, Isle is more open-ended island exploration.

If your group might favor one over the other, think in that direction.

That's very cool! I've been contributing to Goodman projects since DCC #13, but Isle of the Sea-Drake was my first solo adventure.

I'm glad you liked it! It was a lot of fun to write.

Re: From Here to There

This looks like a great product! Thank you, sir. Glad to hear you're coming back to D&D after some time off. Some of those tropes you talk about are at the root of the Great Edition Debate. I see this as an opportunity to reinvent or turn them on their head, but I like that kind of thing. FWIW,...

Re: From Here to There

So why is M&M fun and D&D4 less? I can't answer why you find the above to be true. It's a matter of preference, but based on what I've read in several places you're not alone. Hell, I'm still struggling with some aspects of 4E. But it's my job to insert (what I hope to be) fun into any game...
