Re: another suggestion
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned "Reverse Dungeon", which was an AD&D 2E module where players took the roles of critters in a dungeon and their goal was to wipe out a band of dungeon adventurers. I think that a module such as this can be fun as a one-shot but I wouldn't be inter...

These forums really need sub-folders under the main forum headings. There are several threads on Castle Whiterock spread out over two or three pages alone. I just found this. And here I thought the "Everything Whiterock" thread way my idea. :P I think that the concept of sub-forums isn't ...

Re: Wild Western Fantasy!
Thanks for the info. I love the behind the scenes stories of how things came about. Agreed. I find myself to be a bit of a "gaming historian" as well as a lifetime gamer. At least, I have a lot of interest in OD&D and the early TSR years. Seeing the evolution process on how a game get...

1. I'm really impressed with your design and layout and wish I could do something so slick and polished. What software do you use for it?
2. Really neat that issue #3 has an adventure near Fermilab, since I live within an hour of there!

Clearly someone is a Dark Consipiracy fan!
Seriously, having given the first issue a gander, I like what I see here. I'll need to take some time to brouse them all before I can see what I can use, but after all it is free....

Re: Question on thread necromancy
Glad to hear that folks don't mind. I guess my general philosophy is: 1. If there's a thread and a post is on-topic, continue that thread to keep similar ideas together. 2. If there isn't a thread, or if an idea is somewhat tangent to the main idea, start a new one. I just wanted to get a sense as t...

Re: A magazine for Age of Cthulhu
It does sound interesting, and of course you've listed off some of my favorite games (well, except for WoD) and that's a nice perk. I guess the TOC I looked at seemed fiction-heavy so I was curious about how they usually go.
Thanks for the tip and the link. I'll definitely check 'em out!

Question on thread necromancy
If I find an old thread, perhaps several years old, is it better to necro it or start a new one?
I ask simply because some boards have a preference and I didn't see anything posted here about this issue. (For example, on The Forge if it's not on page #1 don't reply to it.)

Re: A magazine for Age of Cthulhu
Protodimension Magazine Hey, Tadk, can you tell me more about Protodimension magazine? I'll confess that I haven't read an issues yet, but I visited the link and scanned the TOC for a couple of issues and it seems to be mostly fiction or other electic articles. What is the primary focus for the pub...

Re: Wild Western Fantasy!
wasn't there some old D&D adventure with a crashed spaceship? Was this a crossover module to M.A.? It was a long time ago so all I really remember was my cousin being super excited that you could find things like scuba gear in a D&D adventure. You're thinking of S3--Expedition to the Barrie...

Re: Artwork Compilation!
I forgot all about this topic. I still love the idea of the old-School baseball style cards with the gum. The art could be on the front with info on the back. I use Frank Frazzeta cards as book marks when I read. I hate to be the one to be a nay-sayer here, but I'm really torn on this idea. Anyone ...

Speaking of Flash Gordon ... am I the only one who liked the SciFi Channel series? It got butchered in the various boards but I thought it was kind of cool. (Not as cool as Dresden Files, and not a great replacement, but not bad.)

Re: Licensed properties
Yeah, I've been thinking about this from a business standpoint ever since my earlier Conan suggestion, and I've pretty much come to the same general conclusion. The problem, as I see it, is that most games and modules probably don't rake in tons of money. They have a somewhat limited print run compa...

Re: A plea for the upcoming DCC RPG....
Converting enemies with classes and levels (like an evil high level wizard), specifically prepping 'em from a DM's standpoint was a time consuming process. If they were multi-classed, it was worse. Again, im using 3.5 to PFRPG for my examples because of the differences between the classes. Agreed. ...

Re: A plea for the upcoming DCC RPG....
The secret to most game conversions is to keep 'em as simple as possible. To me, 3E and Pathfinder are essentially interchangible as far as modules go since monsters are mostly a collection of attacks, damage, defense, hit points, and the occasional cool ability. Not much to convert at all since 3E ...

Admit it, you just started this thread because you wanted an even 50. :P Wish I'd thought of that, but it just happened that way. I did a similar thread on the Dragonsfoot froum for the old Dave Arneson "Blackmoor" campaign threads, where I found many threads scattered around but no singl...

Re: A plea for the upcoming DCC RPG....
The "origin system" is very similar. But one characteristic of 3E/D20, which is in direct opposition to OD&D, is the challenge rating system - the basic concept of "game balance" is fundamentally different between editions. In 1E, it was expected that level 1 of a dungeon mi...

Re: Suggestions for Story-Driven Adventures
4E does have the distinction of putting tactics ahead of story. At least, that has been my experience with the game so far. I think that most modules could be run as a story, if you are willing to thin out the rules and simplify the options. I've run Amber Diceless and it has almost zero detail in t...

Re: A plea for the upcoming DCC RPG....
If it does the following... 1) Drop the reliance on miniatures (too time consuming to prep and too much tactical focus). 2) Easy to convert my old (rather large) library of DCCs and D20 material. 3) Rules light (lighter than 3.5 at least). I'm not a spokesman for Joseph but I've spent hours searchi...

Re: DCC T-Shirt?
Here's my generic "RPG t-shirt" pitch that I give to anyone who has a game I like and will listen to me: I love wearing game t-shirts to conventions. It makes me feel cool and it gives free advertising to the RPG. Often, folks will stop and ask about the game. I'd love to have a neat t-shi...

Re: Pre-generated Characters vs. Custom Characters
It can, but often this is influenced by how often we get our group together. If we are playing frequently no one minds taking a chunk of time to create characters, but when we have a hard time getting together regularly it's not time I like to spend. Certainly, creating characters together gives pla...
