Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
Here is my latest experience with luck: We had a game earlier this week and it was a fun time, but at the expense of a lot of luck. First the context: We heard about a dungeon and went off to investigate with our party that is a mixture of 0 and 1st level characters. Our party cautiously crept up to...

Which brand of dice did you get? The Koplow or Gamescience?

Has anyone ordered dice from Chessex?
Has anyone ordered dice from Chessex? I was kind of surprised that this long standing institution of the hobby has such a sparse "order" page. They mention that you can pay via paypal, but the address you need to use is blank. I think I'd like to get them from Chessex as you have the optio...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
You've dropped down to 2 Str, man up and go questing for the elixir that would restore it. Or change your tactics so you don't only rely on Str all the time. If it's Luck - get bonded to some wizard's Patron and try for a boon - every bit helps. Use it to seed further adventure rather than blubbing...

Re: Luck Kind of Sucks
One game element that I dislike, which is well highlighted by Luck, is the cascading effect of having a stat go down in value. I've never cared for it, going back 30 years, that when an ability is damaged in some way that the modifier is tracked. It really became a problem in 3.x, where the damaged ...

Re: Ability Score Modifier Progression
I think the thing that is the most jarring for me in how the stats progress are the numbers 12 and 15. There is no difference between a 9 and a 12, and a 15 is kind of "meh..." even though statistically it's a pretty awesome value. I can see the value in having a 12 or 15 IF the number is ...

Funky Dice: In for a penny, in for a pound!
After a couple of sessions of DCC there is a lot that I enjoy, including the funky dice. However it seems as if the approach isn't going the whole way. I'd really enjoy seeing a far more extensive use of dice steps in terms of how you differentiate expertise, or deal with traditional modifiers. It w...

Cleric's Divine Aid - It just isn't adding up for me
So we were playing last night and our party was facing off against a horde of shades. Half the party was running away, a quarter were dying, and the last quarter were standing their ground. It was looking pretty grim. I decided to try out the Divine Aid ability for the Cleric, both just to playtest ...

Re: Get rid of infravision!
Where does infravision come from in terms of the original material? When looking at Appendix N titles I'm not remembering anything that involved heroic races being able to see in darkness. There might have been some monsters, such as Shelob or Gollum who could perceive things in the dark in some man...

Re: Grappling in DCC?
30 years ago I was often frustrated at the lack of rules that would allow for "practical" ways of dealing with a situation. DMs would either not allow for more immersive and intentional actions and default to the abstract hit point system, or they'd just hand wave it and allow for somethin...

Re: Get rid of infravision!
For ages I've longed to get rid of darkvision/infravision. Low-light vision is fine, but ultimately the need for a light source is one of those elements that make for a more engaging experience. Having the nasty creatures be able to see in the dark, but the PCs can't is one of those primordial fears...

Keeping the funnel going?
Played yesterday for the first time with the funnel. I liked it. It seemed like it made for a better seed bed for "emergent" stories than focusing on just one PC all the time, mainly because it kept highlighting the fatalism and the continuation of the story even if someone died. I think i...
