Art looks great! :D The funding level, however, does not. I hope that the project gains some momentum!

What happens to our contribution if it doesn't get funded? You should try to get it published some other way too, I'd buy it. Maybe a PDF only to start with?

The entire set is getting published -- main book at 32 pages and the 4 adventures. Funded or not. We'll roll it out PDF -- it'll just be slower. I'm looking at RPGNow's printing option as a fall back for printed versions of the books.

I do too. He did a lot of the art for our Patrons book, so he was my first call on this project. I'm also using Jason Sholtis who did work for Rappan Athuk and Barrowmaze and a lot of other old school stuff. I really like his style a lot.

Jason's site is here: Underworld Ink.

John Humphrey (he's here on the boards) is hopefully doing all the maps -- he's pressed for time, but I REALLY like his style. Here's one he did for us:

Re: In the Prison of the Squid Sorcerer -- 10 Days left...

Post by ragboy »

Received the Mermaids of Yuggoth draft this weekend and it's friggin' amazing. I actually shouted "no!" while reading a certain passage...yeah...me...a 280lb ex-defensive lineman and Army tank driver. Ravencrowking just has a way with words...what can I say?

With 10 days left, we're throwing out all the stops. We're way behind and it's not looking good. I'll be announcing some additional incentives later today. If you liked mine and Daniel's previous work, please consider contributing to the project.

Alright -- the updated funding levels and incentives are published.

In a nutshell:

If we fund at the base level ($3500), the main book expands to 64 pages. In addition, everyone gets a bonus double-sized adventure (PDF) co-written by myself, Daniel Bishop and Ken Jelinek (our primary authors). And, we're throwing in a mini-poster of the front cover.

Since we removed a stretch goal (64 page book), this moves the additional stretch goals (4 print and PDF bonus adventures) "up a notch." It would be great if we could reach these stretch goals, but I'll let the public decide if they want to see these adventures in the immediate future.

So, if this project interests you. If you've been on the fence -- consider contributing to the project. We'd love to have your support.

In the Prison of the Squid Sorcerer

Thanks,

Paul

I was on the fence with this until you did "ANOTHER MAN'S TREASURE". I was a big fan of books like Dungeon Delve and Dungeon Magazine (back in the day). Looking good so far. I kicked in for $20 yesterday.

Maybe you should split it into thirds... cut the funding level to something more manageable, say $1,500, for a 22 page booklet? Then you can do a trilogy (or more, if you're so inclined). I wonder if maybe people aren't supporting it at a $3,500 level because you don't have much history publishing. Also there's definitely a gamesmanship sort of deal with these crowdfundings, people like to contribute to stuff that's going to "win" and has momentum.

Don't give up! I want a PDF, at least.

We're not giving up. I may have said previously in this thread, but we'll be publishing the content funded or not -- maybe not exactly as described and it will definitely be on a slower schedule. But, I know that I, and my team (and hopefully the current funders and fence sitters) would really like to get this thing out with the original vision.

We have some amazing content, in my opinion. The book as a whole really captures the "weird" in weird pulp. Ken and Daniel have turned in some truly unique encounters -- from the subtly of the Coin of Calcia to the truly strange with Tomb of the Squonk. And we have a couple of newcomers that really came through -- Shadow of the Malagok (the crazy crocodile god and his minions) and the Skarajian, giant flaming beetle that uses the corpses of its victims to build grisly mating displays... and we haven't even mentioned the vile prison of the squid sorcerer.

So far, I think the art and writing is professional and the content is a solid addition to the game.

*and now I'll get off my soapbox* :)

Alright...one final update today, and I'll shut up about it. Here's the "table of contents" as well as the title for the free double-sized module. Also note, that with the expansion of the book to 64 pages, four of the "encounters" below (marked with an '*') are actually short adventures (6-8 pages each). So, you're getting 5 adventures + 10 extra encounters!!! <---that's crazed excitement!

Will likely have the titles and synopsis (synopses?) for the four bonus modules next week. Finalizing which ones we're going to do first.

1. Shadows of the Malagok
2. Mermaids from Yuggoth*
3. The Nazhghad's Invocation
4. Another Man's Treasure
5. Cult of the Flickering Sign
6. Sails Aflame
7. Skein of the Ice Mistress
8. Tomb of the Squonk*
9. Slaves of the Visitants
10. In the Prison of the Squid Sorcerer*
11. The Long Sleep
12. Swindled at the Laughing Harpy
13. Blood Goddess' Revenge
14. The Demon's Conscripts*

All of this information should have been supplied from the very beginning of this project instead of in dribs & drabs. I'm not surprised that only 22 DCC fans have so far been convinced to crowd fund this project. The pitch has been rather patchy to say the least.

Alright -- last update. We have 34 hours left. If you've pledged a contribution, THANK YOU from the team. If you've considered it, feel free to show your support, even if the project doesn't fund. And to both camps, share it with your friends that might be interested.

Everyone that pledges, funded or not, will receive a special thank you from the Mystic Bull Games team -- so anyone that's using a burner account, be sure to shoot us a note on indiegogo with your contact info.

Thanks again.

Giving Paul's book a bump here. I've done 7 Maps for it (just finished today) and contributed one of the Adventures . I've read the manuscript a bunch in the last month.
I just wanted to say this is going to be great book...all the adventures are cool, but several are spectacular.
The book has a really great late 70's feel that I relate to first hand. Having supported most if not all of the 3PP stuff that I was turned on to here
on the forums, I can say, now having a bunch of it in hand, that this book is right up there in its content quality with everything I am seeing 3PP wise.
Another nice touch is despite this being a DCC book all way, it is very OSR system neutral, so If I say wanted to run a 1E, LL or C&C game it would be a breeze.
So despite it not being funded, I'd really recommend everyone give it a hard look when it comes out.
Personally I am happy to be involved in such a cool project.
Thanks for reading.
