Invisibility

Post by Eyeball360 »

Am I missing this somewhere? Is there a defined modifier for attacking an invisible opponent?

Thanks for the help.

I don't think there is.

My take is that it should be handled like traps -- you don't just roll. If you can describe what you're doing in a way that gives you a chance to hit someone or something that is invisible, you get a chance to hit. Just swinging at random won't cut it.

Just rolling dice won't cut it either.

As Rick pointed in another thread:

Invisible companion spell, p. 173:
"It has AC 16, 1d8 hp, and all attacks against it have a 50% chance of missing due to its invisibility."

I'd go with that, or a AD&D "classic" -4 to hit penalty.

The previous thread on invisibility is here. Another on blindness (which may give you ideas) is here.

If you want to go with the 50% miss chance you could just say any odd number on the attack roll misses.

This is very helpful, thanks!

Thanks to everyone for the input.
