You've got a pledge from me. I would recommend going over the perk descriptions to re-format, and clarify them. At this point you don't have any other products, or a website; everything currently relies on the impression from your funding page. Consider those who find the product via other forums, searches, word of mouth, etc. They may not find the discussions that have been had here. Please don't take my criticisms the wrong way, I expect the delivered product will be great (or I wouldn't have pledged), but I hope no one decides not to pledge due to a superficial first impression.

As an example, at $50 you have this description:
Perfect bound book + signed + special detachable screen + bonus magic item section, detailing 16 new item's + poster + t - shirt plus all stretch goals.

I'm assuming the signed, means the perfect-bound book listed? What is special about the detachable screen? Is the bonus magic item separate from the perfect bound book?

Consider the following:
Perfect-bound book (signed), detachable (judge?) screen, bonus magic item section (detailing 16 new items), poster, t-shirt, and all stretch goal rewards that are reached.

Good luck! I sincerely hope you receive enough funding for your highest stretch goal.

Thanks for the pledge!

Something else that hasn't come up yet, and should really be added to the Indiegogo page: It is our intention that up to 2 of these patrons can be fully referenced/used in any adventure/product using the Goodman Games DCC Compatibility License. There will be wording in the product that will indicate that this permission is given.

We hope that both GG and 3pp will make use of the patrons we will be providing. There are a lot of adventure hooks in these write-ups, and if they spark your imagination, we want you to be able to use them, and to publish the results.

Why not just make the whole book OGC then? Three reasons: (1) We don't want the entire book reproduced in any one product, (2) We want these patrons to be used for other DCC products, and (3) We trust that the Goodman Games approval process will result in only fair use...and, more importantly, quality use.

In the event that this first book does well, and a second is warranted, we would like to continue and strengthen that basic idea. In fact, it would be exceedingly cool if a future product could also reference 3pp works, like the patrons already mentioned in the Purple Sorcerer modules, or some of the things I am working on for Purple Duck. (And I don't mean to leave anyone out here.....these are just the 3pp modules I know best right now.)

Hhaaashh-Lusss, Lord Duke of Reptiles

His teeth and jaws are those of a crocodile, his bite venomous, his scales armoured like turtle shells, his body as sinuous as a serpent’s. Hhaaashh-Lusss, the Cold Blooded One, Lord Duke of Reptiles, is a supernatural being whose very existence is centred upon promoting the interests of all scaly things that creep and crawl through desert, sea, and swamp. He is slow to act, but resolute in his decisions.

The Lord Duke of Reptiles views human creatures only as meat, but his cunning mind can make use of those Wizards and Elves who would request power of him. Only a fool believes Hhaaashh-Lusss means him well. As soon as a relationship is no longer beneficial to the Cold Blooded One, the petitioner once more becomes prey. Yet, so long as one can remain of use to the Lord Duke of Reptiles, there is power to be had. And, as patron taint makes one more and more like the kith of Hhaaashh-Lusss, the more one’s interests intertwine with this patron.

Hhaaashh-Lusss’ ceremony may be conducted anywhere that reptilian life is plentiful in any of its forms – steaming snake-filled jungles, marshy riversides haunted by crocodiles, iguana-infested coastal lands, or desert lands where tuataras, lizards, and sidewinders dwell.

Spellburn: Radu, King of Rabbits

The King of Rabbits has a special care watching over rabbits, hares, and similar creatures. He has no particular desire for blood or sacrifices for himself, but he does know how to use those sacrifices to aid his charges. When a caster utilizes spellburn, roll 1d4 on the table below when a request is made, or use the ideas below to develop unique events for your home campaign.

Roll Spellburn Result

1 Radu needs to apportion part of the caster’s vitality to a warren of his charges. The caster gains visions of a flood of rabbits fleeing some predator or disaster in their warren, fuelled by the caster’s own essence (expressed as Stamina, Strength, or Agility loss).

2 Radu has offers the caster twice the spellburn he has requested at no cost, so long as the caster undertakes a small task for him. Roll 1d6: (1) slay or drive off a fox lairing near a large warren, (2) bring choice garden herbs to a specific site for Radu’s consumption, (3) undertake to thwart or slay a caster favoured by Mulferret, Queen of Weasels, (4) free specific domesticated rabbits from a farmer’s hutch, (5) escort a troupe of rabbit diplomats or unmated female rabbits from one warren to another, or (6) prevent humans or other creatures from digging up a warren to build an inn or other structure. If the task is completed successfully within a given time frame, all is well. If not, Radu takes the spellburn from where he chooses at a time of his choosing.

3 The caster gains a vision of fighting a fox, dog, cat, or other predator while in a rabbit’s body. Immediately afterwards, the wounds from the fight appear on his own body (expressed as Stamina, Strength, or Agility loss).

4 For a moment, the caster becomes attuned to Radu, and hears, sees, and feels the lives of all rabbits and rabbit-like creatures in the world. This is too much for a mortal mind to bear, and the caster is blasted by the experience (expressed as Stamina, Strength, or Agility loss). At the judge’s discretion, the caster may recall something of interest out of this mental maelstrom of sensations.

So, for those two previews, I chose looks at some of the animal-based patrons being developed for our project.

Comments are, of course, very welcome. Please be aware that these materials may undergo changes/revisions before they reach their final forms!

I'm very happy with what I'm seeing so far. Very happy.

Some contributors can create their own patron at certain levels. How will this be handled? Wont this greatly increase the size of the book?

Glad to hear it!

The basic plan that we have discussed for contributor patrons is that the contributor gives us basic information, we produce a draft write-up, it goes back to the contributor for comment and revision, and then we produce a second write-up. The contributor then gets one more chance to comment and request revisions. It is our desire that, if you have a patron in your home campaign that you want developed, this patron then becomes available not only to you (in a fully developed format), but also to 3pp and GG, if they choose to use it.

Imagine the joy of picking up an adventure to modify for your campaign, only to discover that your Wizard's patron is already an integral part of that adventure!

We want that to happen.

In any event, we are going to cram this product with as much goodness as we can, and, with the overflow, very likely begin work on a second volume. But, really, I would love the funding to do so well that there is no immediate overflow. The more I work on these patrons, the more inspired I get, and the more I tend to expand the scope of my involvement. One way or another, you are going to see a plethora of patrons released.....more than enough to fuel years of gaming.

Daniel/RC

Awesome! At what $$$ contributor levels is this a perk?
Thank you for answering my questions. I'm glad I'm on board.

For the record, re: contributor patrons:

If I put out, say, a preview of Queen Mab, and a contributor of the "Patron of Ptah-Ungurath" level wanted to help develop a patron already in development, I would be happy to hear his ideas. If something we've put out so kicks your fancy that you want to be a part of that, rather than something of your own, by all means let us know!

Daniel

$35.

$35 and above?
Or only at the $35 level?
I'm at $50. Usually higher level contributions include the lower level perks.

I am reading that at $35 and above. I.e., $35 is the cut-off point.

So, if you have something you want developed, you can send me an email at ravencrowking at hotmail dot com, and I will be happy to start working on it. Or, likewise, if you want in on a patron already mentioned. I very much look forward to hearing from you!

(Just so you know, the initial development may be handled by other team members as well.....but I am happy to act as the "drop box", so to speak!)

I just signed up, and got a good chuckle when I saw the home location of Daventry. It is one of the few places in the UK that I've been to (living in California), having attended a wedding in Badby. I'm pretty sure I stayed in a row house in Daventry on one of the multiple stag nights. I like Northamptonshire and Warwickshire quite a bit. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the project!

Just to be absolutely clear, at $25 the Revelations of Mulmo module is a printed version, yes?

Set-Utekh the Destroyer

In ancient times, before men crawled forth upon the face of the world, Set-Utekh and his brothers came to this plane. They sought to tame the great reptiles of the nascent world, and to order all things as they desired. They taught men the arts of writing hieroglyphics, of building monuments to their glory, of navigating rivers and shallow seas, and of war. They took wives from the children of men, and their children were worshiped as gods.

Alone among these alien brothers, Set-Utekh sought not to build, but to destroy. So terrible was the destruction He wrought that the green land of the Sons of Osiris were blasted into a desert. The very existence of living beings upon this world was threatened. Even the plane itself came close to becoming nothing more than whirling dust and motes of ash. The Sons of Osiris therefore rose up, and with the aid of their semi-divine parents bound the Destroyer in a single moment of time, hidden deep beneath a pyramid in the once-green land. Lest Set-Utekh become free, the key to His binding was hidden away on another planet or plane beyond the ken of human beings.

Although bound, the dark god Set-Utekh still seeks to free Himself and bring destruction upon the cosmos. Should Set-Utekh ever be freed He will eat the life of stars and planets. Until that time, though, He offers much power to those who would do His dark bidding, and would gamble against the chance that some minor task their patron sets will release the Destroyer. For the Destroyer works ever toward the day that His servants can reach the key to His prison, and release Him from the Moment in which He is trapped.

When that day comes, Woe to the Sons of Osiris! Woe to the world of Men! Woe to all that lives or crawls within the unbounded Cosmos!

Many of the Sons of Osiris, and all of their Fathers before them, had the heads of animals. Set-Utekh is said to be like unto a mortal man with a serpent’s skin in form, with scales the colour of burnt wood and the head of a jackal. His eyes glow with a lambent orange light. Even now, trapped as He is, He is fully able to think, plan, communicate with those who bond with Him, and send them aid when it suits His purpose. His ceremony must be performed in the blasted desert lands near the place where He is imprisoned.

Lavarial, Angel of the Temple

Beautiful and fierce, the Angel of the Temple seeks to protect travellers in night-haunted lands, and to overthrow the crawling legions of Chaos. In many lands, her symbol is the red Temple Cross on a white field, symbolizing the meeting of paths, purity of purpose, and blood – both spilled in the service of Law, and saved by miraculous healing.

The judge may determine that any Lawful temple near a Chaotic wasteland has an order dedicated to Lavarial. It is in these places alone that the ceremony to bond with the Angel may take place.

Those who bond with Lavarial are filled with a holy flame that is visible as a halo to powerful creatures of Law and Chaos. Such creatures may aid the bonded individual or target him, depending upon their alignment and relative strength. A creature bonded with Lavarial gains a damage bonus equal to his character level against all demons and un-dead, as well as any other creatures the judge deems strongly bonded to Chaos. In exchange, Lavarial demands that those who would follow her always come to the aid of innocents against such beings, protect travellers, and be willing to exchange their lives, if need be, to fulfil these demands. Failure to act leads to a loss of Lavarial’s favour, ending her patronage. It may also lead to more stringent chastisements, for the Angel of the Temple believes in the punishment of fallen vassals.

Will you support her? Her demands are not easy, but her aid is not to be scoffed at either. Clerics of the Temple lead pilgrimages seeking what support they can muster.

We are currently on $1280 and need $2000 to hit our first goal.

The link to the campaign is below.

Please have a look and at the very least please share it amongst your rpg friends.

Kind regards

Sadly, I'm going to have to pass. Given everything I've backed/pre-ordered this year (Appendix N, RuneQuest 6e, Tales From The Fallen Empire, Starships & Spacemen 2e, Barrowmaze II, ACKS Players Companion, and Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyperborea, new Dungeon Alphabet), I think my budget is already overspent. :(

Best of luck with it anyway.

cheers!
