Where is the DCC Crowd heading to in 2013... (Con-wise)
Hey,
It's too late to book anything in 2012 but... I want to go to a RPG con in 2013!
My last times was DragonCon in 2002. Highlight: the wonderful Dave Arneson intimate panel:
- Then Gary came up with the idea of publishing adventure modules. "Modules ?", I said, "NOBODY is ever gonna buy a Dungeons and Dragons module!!!, it's much too fun to design your own!!". Boy was I ever wrong...
Anyway, just wondering where the DCC RPG crowd is heading in 2013!
(Special invitation to J. Goodman, H. Stroh and D. Kovacs for the poll)

I was thinking of going to Ducosim in The Netherlands this autumn.

I'm shooting for both Gary Con V and NTRPGCon V in 2013 with possibly other cons on the list as well. If I'm there, DCC RPG will be too!

I should go to GaryCon since I'm so close, but somehow it's the wrong time of year (right around the start of Spring Break and my family always has plans).
I voted GenCon because I've been there so many times, but I won't really know if I'm going again until I see if this year's GenCon remains fun. It's not like the old days in Milwaukee...

I voted GaryCon...because...well...that's become The One, for me...
But I will likely go to GenCon as long as I have access to a free (nice) place to stay. I know I'm going this year...but it's a year to year thing.
Finarvyn...you really should drop in on GaryCon...screw Spring Break! Or forma more insidious plot as I did - getting my kids hooked on going

I've been going to DunDraCon every year for 27 years. Don't see any reason to stop now.

Some folks might need to be able to select more than 1 option.
I may attend GenCon in 2013 and am already leaning towards Dragon Con in 2013.

Re: Where is the DCC Crowd heading to in 2013... (Con-wise)
My two primary cons to attend are Gen Con and Gary Con. However, if it came down to just one or the other, Gary Con wins every time -- no contest.
Re: Where is the DCC Crowd heading to in 2013... (Con-wise)
Gotta make NTRPGcon this year. It's in my hometown city...3 hours away! I've missed it every dang time.
Other than that, I'm still sticking closer to home:
MillenniumCon -- It's here in Austin (Round Rock actually...I can walk to it). This one is more miniatures games than RPG (I think RPGA--4e DND) have a lock on the RPG gaming. But I love to play other people's miniatures games. We hit this one every year.
Texicon -- also in Ft. Worth. It's a grab bag of games...more traditional small RPG con, with lots of Old School support.

GaryCon is getting more and more tempting based on this thread! My GenCon plans for this year are falling apart, so GaryCon could get me to a fun con a little faster than waiting until next year!

Are you in the the Atlanta area?Pilgrim wrote:I'll be hitting up Origins and Dragoncon in 2013.
I've never been to DragonCon proper, but wondering if there's much gaming that actually goes on there. It seems to be more of a cosplay festival, heh.
Re: Where is the DCC Crowd heading to in 2013... (Con-wise)
No, I'm not in the ATL area, but generally hit up DC every year since we live in south Ga. Gaming is hit or miss depending on what you're looking for. Usually D&D and PF are the two big RPGs every year with a smattering of random other stuff. It's true that DC has become more of a party con. Board games and CCGs are big in the gaming area, RPGs tend to take more of a backseat, unfortunately.beermotor wrote:Are you in the the Atlanta area?Pilgrim wrote:I'll be hitting up Origins and Dragoncon in 2013.

Only speaking for myself, the coming year holds:
GenCon (Indy, August)
Tacticon (Denver, August)
Genghis Con (Denver, Feb)
Gary Con (Lake Geneva, March)
North Texas RPG (Dallas / Fort Worth, June)
Joseph usually covers the West Coast. Hopefully we'll have more to announce as the year progresses.

I'm necroing this thread as Goodman Games DCC convention itinerary is out now.
I'm personally still leaning towards NTRPGCon - 2013 in Dallas, but not entirely decided yet.
Anybody else have new/definite plans ?

RPGs are pretty much an afterthought at Dragon Con. Ten years ago they were well represented... but times have changed. D*Con has become a multimedia event with LOTS of costumes.beermotor wrote:Are you in the the Atlanta area?Pilgrim wrote:I'll be hitting up Origins and Dragoncon in 2013.

I'm strongly leaning towards Gencon this year. Possibly Kublacon. Defintely GoPlayNW, Dragonflight, and PAX. Plan on running DCCRPG at all over them. I ran DCCRPG at PAX last year in the Indie Games room.

Just signed up for NTRPGCon -- but their scheduled games do NOT currently include DCC sessions. I shot Harley a note about it.sheriffharry wrote:I'm necroing this thread as Goodman Games DCC convention itinerary is out now.

I'll be running a couple games at OrcCon in February and Gamex in May [http://strategicon.net/].
Orccon 2013 Presidents Day Weekend Feb 15 - Feb 18
Gamex 2013 Memorial Day Weekend May 24 - May 27
Both are Los Angeles shows. I had a blast at Gamex last year, first time at a big Con since the early 2000s. It'll be part of the DCC RPG 2013 World Tour.
I also plan to run some non-convention games in unconventional areas around Los Angeles, well at least if I can pull them off cheaply. Particularly those "Shared Events". You may consider coming to LA when I run them. It should prove to be interesting.

So far I am just planning for DunDraCon here in February but with the world tour in full swing I think I better squeeze in running an event at KublaCon as well!

My GaryCon plans aren't going to happen unfortunately. Marcon might, but likely in limited capacity. It does look like Origins is going to be a go. Looks like several friends from my online games are tentatively planning a road trip to Columbus for that weekend for some gaming!

As of this moment in Late January:
GaryCon
and
Gen Con
If anyone offered to cover travel expenses and a floor to sleep on I might seriously consider anywhere else.
Possibly just one of the two if I thought I could make it up in art sales.
