Upcoming rulebooks?
We obviously need more detailed Monsters, Spells and Magic items rulebooks.
(as for new classes/races, and the obligatory "official campaign" setting, I don't see an immediate need.)
I'm trying to find out what's in the pipeline, apart from the modules?
Anybody?

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I would also like to see more supplements, specifically spell-related.

Look to the Third Party Publishers section of this forum for what you seek -- Goodman Games is producing adventures, with nothing else currently bespoke in the pipeline. Although I'd be surprised if their adventures didn't all include new monsters, new spells, new magic items, etc.
The intention from the start was that there would be one rulebook, and room for individual DMs and 3PP to do what they will therewith. There is the possibility of "annuals" that include new playthings, but we might have to wait at least a year for that...

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I understand the insatiable hunger for spells and monsters - this has always been part of the appeal of D&D. But if I were running this property I wouldn't put out any new rule books for a good long time. They just produced a classic and it is clearly enough for a long run of rich play. And, ask yourself how important Unearthed Arcana and the Wilderness and Dungeon Guides were to your 1E game...sort of fun reads, but did they honestly make the game different and better? The things I go to in my 1E collection are the pastel modules; those are what 'shaped' the game, beyond the original rules, for me.
Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
What I think we need more urgently is a book of assorted patrons and deities for use directly and as inspiration.

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
IIRC, Goodman has stated that they absolutely won't be doing rulebook or splatbook bloat, sticking instead almost entirely to a single DCC Annual each year. They don't want to do the supplement treadmill, leaving that mostly to third parties, but instead will focus nearly all of their efforts on modules. Anyone else remember this, or am I imagining it?

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I feel like I have plenty to use from the core book. I definitely wouldn't want to see rules bloat. Adventures are nice and it will be nice to see more of those or even just tips on converting some of the older stuff I have laying around for use with DCC.

Also in that interview Mr. Goodman gave a couple weeks back.Ravenheart87 wrote:You're not imagining it, Colin, it was said multiple times on these forums.
It is also the most beautiful sentence I have ever heard a game designer say, and I hope it is something that Goodman Games is able to stick with for the long haul as that is the exact right pace (combined with monthly modules and 3PP support) for me.
Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
New monsters, Spells and Items... Yes please.
Having thought about it...
I'd like to see them appear in the new modules please.

New Monsters: You already have a lot of tables and guidelines in the rulebook to customize and create new ones.
New Magic Items: See above.
But as mentioned above, the adventures are going to have plenty of these.

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I had initially been hot on the idea of new monsters, but as I create my own materials, the absence of a monster book has increased the range and variety of ideas I am having. Well, that and reading through Appendix N! It is pretty easy to stat anything you can conceive of in this system.
SoBH pbp:
Cathbad the Meek (herbalist Wizard 1): AC 9; 4 hp; S 7, A 7, St 10, P 17, I 13, L 8; Neutral; Club, herbs, 50' rope, 50 cp; -1 to melee attack rolls. Hideous scar.

Thank goodness I'm not simply going insane. Well, more insane than I already am at any rate.

Yep, plus the DCC RPG even recommends buying and using Raggi's work for it.dunbruha wrote:New Monsters: The Random Esoteric Creature Generator

Good point. It's quite edition neutral, it's easy to finish or convert monsters made there to work in DCC RPG.dunbruha wrote:New Monsters: The Random Esoteric Creature Generator

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
No plans for additional rule books. Core book, one annual a year, and a lot of adventures. Each adventure is almost all new monsters, and they occasionally include new spells where appropriate (as seen in People of the Pit). Given the volume of requests for new patrons, deities, and spells, I believe those are natural topics to include in the first annual. Not sure on including monsters...I am more inclined to include tools to help the judge create his own monsters, rather than statted-out creatures.
Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
Absolutely. I know now that this is the last monster book I'll ever buy.dunbruha wrote:New Monsters: The Random Esoteric Creature Generator

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
Now the idea we won't have an endless stream of 'official rules supplements' but instead modules is VERY appealing to me.
I don't want to see 'ULTIMATE this' and 'XTREME that' supplements, thank you very much.

Re: Upcoming rulebooks?
I'd like to +1 Raggi's Esoteric Creature Generator. That thing is awesome.
TA/TG is introducing a new group of spells (in The Transylvanian Grimoire). That's a 3PP. These spells will have a different feel from the spells in DCC. Less flashy, more subtle. More like the magic you'd see in Conan or Jonathan Norrell. So I guess "less flashy" is a bit inaccurate as opposed to "flashy in a different way".
Those spells can be used instead of the DCC spells (or in addition to, I suppose). The spells or the classes used by themselves or in conjunction as replacements for the core DCC classes or spells could dramatically change the feel of a game no matter what time period or campaign setting is used.
So instead of more spells, I guess it's different approaches to spells.

More random generation tables. The tables for dragons are superb
