Racial perks for level 0?

Post by micahmoore »

So I read the core book today, and wonder what you guys think....
Some traits such as the dwarves ability for infravision / smelling gold
is a racial skill not a class.
(Though this system treats them one in the same)
I'm wondering if those class/races should have their start racial skills even at level zero.
(since these occupations are so rare to roll anyway, I would think theyd be more likely
to survive funneling, and racial skills would help that.

Thanks for your ideas.

I tend not to give zeroes anything really cool, including racial abilities. Makes the characters that much more nifty when they survive to reach 1st level!

Of course, your observation that they would survive the funnel better with those racial abilities is spot on. I tend not to use them (which I realize is not "realistic") exactly because I don't want to give any zeroes the edge over their peers. Often I find that players' favorite characters die off no matter how much they try to protect them.
