Temple of the Frog

Did anyone play in this at GenCon? I tried to get in but it's a living campaign so only the regulars could play. What was the adventure like?

I didn't play it (busy running our tournament), but I am a ludicrous fan of the original adventure and the 80's Basic D&D remake, so talked to a few people that did.

All three people I talked to said it was uber-fun. IIRC they only covered the approach and the first floor of the chapel...no appearance by Stephen the Rock, unfortunately, nor a visit to the breeding pits.

If anyone was there, let Warduke and I know more details!

Is this a module that will see the light of day as either a d20 or Castles & Crusades module?

Not in those formats, but I think Zeitgeist has plans to eventually publish it as a stand-alone Blackmoor title.

Hello!

Temple of The Frog that was run at this past GenCon, is part of our ongoing Blackmoor: The MMRPG. The GenCon event was just a small part of the manuscript that is currently in the final stages of development and that will be released by year's end.

This new version of Temple of The Frog hearkens back to all versions of the is historic adventure. It has been expanded, and fits in with the current view of Blackmoor.

Stephen the Rock is in ToTF, as is all the little things you remember from the originals are in here.

Richard

But what was it like? You people are killing me, here. Folks played in a rehash of the first adventure of all time and nobody seems to be abuzz about it. Eyargh.

Was anyone at ConQuest in San Francisco, California, on September 2nd to play The Temple of the Frog run by Dave Arneson himself? There were only 8 of you. The adventure was written by Harley Stroh and will be released November 6th from Zeitgeist Games. It originally had cover art by me http://kevin-mayle.livejournal.com/24283.html but now I don't know what it will look like. It should be pretty cool though. Could you imagine playing in the first Dungeons & Dragons adventure ever published on it's 30th anniversary, run by it's writer and the creator of role playing games himself?

Alright Harley,

Give us the scoop. I poked around your blog and found mention that you are the one writing this module. What's it about, what's the levels, how does one find it, etc.

You are getting mighty prolific these days!

Good catch, Jedi. :)

Temple is the next iteration of Arneson’s original. Ritchie and Arneson did the OD&D version, and so mine is just another variant.

So the dirt. This was written by Richard Pocklington with some help from myself. (I wrote Frog Town and the upper 3 levels of the Temple --- essentially what you see if you play the adventure at a convention.)

In my humble estimation, our version is a clean take on the themes established in the original Blackmoor Supplement. I took those impressions and wrote a new dungeon --- so everything that you expect to show up will be there (froglins, mad monks, a touch of technology) but even folks that have played the other 2 versions of Temple will be in for some surprises.

I’ve heard good things from the Zeitgeist playtesters, but I was terrified to learn that Dave ran it at the convention. I mean, I’m stepping on hallowed ground here. I haven’t heard if he likes it or hates it. But who in their right mind would pass up the opportunity to write Temple of the Frog, 3.5? Not me. It was a huge honor.

I’ve heard various rumors about release dates (for instance: that is at the printer right now) but it is safe to assume that the adventure will be out early 2007.

Shoot. Jedi asked for levels. Let me go check my manuscript.

:o

when i was kid, a older kid gave me some of his dungeon and dragon stuff and i have the TSR version.. i never played it since i was too young to know D&D rules, or more likely how to run a game since the characters kept dying in our adventure. It and a couple of other adventures are laying in a box somewhere in the closet.
