This fourm has been sitting for a while, so I thought I'd turn over a rock and see what scurries out.

I'm a big JG fan, going back to the 1970's. I was a subscriber back in '76 or so (my first was installment J or K; I'm not quite sure which since I bought up the back issue or so at the time) and I still have a lot of the booklets from back then. Many of my early and favorite adventures were run through the CSIO, Thunderhold, Fortress Badabaskor and more. JG has a special place in my heart because I grew up within an hour or so of their store and I had several times when I convinced my parents to drive me to Decatur so that I could blow a summer's worth of lawnmowing cash on game products. I met Bob Bledsaw a time or two at the store, which I didn't appreciate at the time but now I wish I had known to pick his brain a little.

What's neat for me is my present group hasn't experienced much of this at all since they aren't the same people I played with in high school. I'd love to see JG make a comeback, and when they do I'd like to see things done with an "old school" rules set. I think that true 3E or 4E rules change the feel of the game somewhat because of the feats and skills and other elements of the rules that didn't exist back "in the day." (I have this same general issue with Arneson's Blackmoor using 3E or 4E.)

For JG, I think that OD&D, AD&D, or C&C are the most obvious choices among active games, and I have great hope that the DCC rpg will follow closely along those philosophical lines of deveopment. Based on the activity of the JG section of these boards, I suspect that Goodman Games won't be doing much with JG. I'd love to see the two welded together somehow, however.

Anyone have any JG stories or memories?

The Judges Guild properties definitely experienced a bit of a renaissance a couple years ago, which has slowed a bit with Bob's passing and the 3E/4E conversion (which unfortunately rendered many of the "renaissance releases" suddenly obsolete from a retailer/distributor perspective). Goodman Games doesn't have any plans to continue publishing JG products but from my conversations with the 2nd and 3rd generation Bledsaws, I know they do have plans to continue expanding the brand. I wouldn't be surprised to see some continued JG releases in the coming year or so.
