Monster selection in DDCs

What games do you want to see? What can we do better?

Monster selection in DDCs

Post by slimykuotoan »

I'd like to see the DDCs make use of monsters from other published books by WOTC as well.

ie. Fiend Folio, MM III, etc.

I would, too, but in most cases we can't. The first Monster Manual is the only WotC monster book that's fully open content. To use any other WotC monsters we have to ask permission on a monster-by-monster basis, and it's just not feasible. For example, the yuan-ti are in the MM but not open content. It took months to get permission to use them in DCC #16: The Emerald Cobra.

Hmm...I can definitely see the problem.

Perhaps more new monsters by the writers of DDCs themselves?

Either way, I'm still overjoyed at the quality of these products overall.

Don't worry, that's coming! Starting in earnest with #15, most of the newer DCC's either use monsters from OGL sources (like Tome of Horrors) and/or include all-new monsters created by the authors. You should see a wider variety of monster encounters as the series goes forward.

It might be cool to have a DCC Monster Manual at some point .........just to collect everything into one handy tome.
