Coming Soon - Critter Cache: Lovecraftian Bestiary

Coming Soon From Blackdirge Publishing and Goodman Games

Critter Cache VI: Lovecraftian Bestiary

Image

DMs, do your players drive you crazy? Do they treat your monsters as nothing more than another rung in the ol’ XP ladder? Well, put a stop to that nonsense and drive your players crazy for a change…hell, push them right over the edge of gibbering insanity. That’s right, with the newest offering from Blackdirge Publishing and Goodman Games, you can harness the raving lunacy of H.P. Lovecraft’s tales of terror and the supernatural for your Fourth Edition Dungeons & Dragons game.

So dispense with the mundane kobolds, goblins, and orcs, and populate your next dungeon with elder things and shoggoths. Or, the next time your PCs set sail, have them bump into a slime-coated island covered with ancient ruins where the angles are all wrong and giant, Cyclopean vaults just wait to be opened…

Critter Cache: Lovecraftian Bestiary features over 30 of your favorite Lovecraftian critters, including everyone’s favorite tentacular great old one. Here’s a peek at some of the monster entries you’ll find in the book:

  • Colour out of Space
  • Cthulhu
  • Deep One
  • Elder Thing
  • Flying Polyp
  • Ghoul, Lovecraftian
  • Great Race of Yith
  • Gug
  • Mi-Go
  • Nightgaunt
  • Shantak
  • Shoggoth

Hail, Great Cthulhu!

Looking forward to this. Cthulhu should have a Fortitude defense of at least, oh, 25.

I don't know, he's only a level 6 elite, so that might be a bit high.

Nah, don't worry folks, the great Cthulhu is guaranteed to leave players mad and gibbering in their own excrement or very *very* dead.

When he sees this, Ogrepuppy is going to:

A. Skweeee like a little girl for an hour. And then for another hour.

B. Be unable to sleep, eat, speak coherently, google anything, nor remain standing until it is in his hands. Even then he might not be able to speak coherently.

C. Die, come back as a ghoul, die again, come back as a zombie and eat his own brain.

D. Be extremely excited.

E. All of the above.

Is a color out of space different than a colour out of space? :P

Nope, they're the same thing, but, yeah, I thought a lot about that. As those familiar with Lovecraft are certainly aware, he used the British spelling of some words, like colour, armour, and so on. I'm an American writing for an audience that is primarily American, so I went with the American spelling of color to be consistent.

But, I don't know, do you guys think I should stick with "colour" as a homage to ol' H.P.?

Well, seeing the American spelling on it struck me as odd, and I'm not even that into Lovecraft. I would think that most people interested in the product would have at least passing familiarity with Lovecraft and would understand?

Personally, I'd like it if you used all the British spellings Lovecraft used throughout the book, and put little note at the beginning for the people who don't understand why. But maybe that's just me. :)

You know, that's a pretty good idea. I might just do that.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I can't wait!

Quick question though, any chance there could be a actual book version of the Critter Cache series? Perhaps like a compilation of them? Pretty please?

I like the easy access of PDFs but I really loved Dungeon Denziens and I would love to see the Critter Cache done in a book similar to that. That book was amazing.

There is a very, very good possibility of that very thing. I can't say more right now, but stay tuned.

I'm always curious about his cousin, The Pretty Much OK Cthulhu.

Him?

Him I see as a level 6 Elite.

Mmm, excrement...

Y'really should.

Don't forget "grey," my preferred spelling.

In my mania, I read that as "gobble anything" which made me mildly uneasy.

Of course, it took nearly a week for me to be able to read (and write, and do much more than drool & whimper pathetically) after I saw the initial announcement.

Although, oddly, I was able to remain standing.

I still am.

When can I sit down, Daddy?

I've just made the last edits to the final proof. It should be available next week.
