phpBB v3.0 RC1 was released earlier this month, but it doesn't look like it has any features that would really cut down on the spam. :(

Thanks Mythfish
Hopefully it will slow down
I am once again employed, starting on Tuesday, so my anti-spam efforts will fall to evenings and early am before heading into work.

As a side note
my 4 weeks of not having a job ends tomorrow
I am once again gainfully employed
Which also means I wont be cleaning the forums on and off during the day like i have been.

Patience is requested
Lets get some legitimate posts up here while we are at it gents

Tadk,

My forum-fu is WEAK. Is there anyway to wipe all posts by an individual at once?

Is there a way to make all new members wait for approval from the webmaster via email before they can begin posting?

Yeah, I know the system is capable of that. It's just a matter of weighing the annoyance of deleting spam all the time vs. the annoyance of the webmaster having to approve each individual account all the time (& legitimate new users having to wait before posting their questions).

I notice there is a new version of BBBoards available, as well... perhaps upgrading the forum code to the new version will introduce some tighter spam control?

Also, is there a "code" option you can include on submissions -- ie, to post, you need to enter a 3-6 digit series of letters shown... it's a security feature I'm seeing more and more often on blogs and forums around the 'net.

The new version of phpBB doesn't seem to have any added anti-spam features, but it never hurts to run the most recent version anyway. I thought that this board had already been upgraded to the version with the visual confirmation, but perhaps not.

The real question is: why hasn't this particular thread been hit with the spam yet...?

I just delete their account and ban the username. That stops them faster.

I've been doing a lot of this as well. Since I was annointed "Deputy Marv" I've been killing 20+ threads per day, sometimes 20+ threads several times per day. Good thing I'm a teacher and unemployed in the summer.
