For me personally, this is the greatest fantasy map ever produced, barring Middle Earth.

Has anyone ever tried running a campaign in Mineria? I think it is a great fit for DCCRPG and would be interested in hearing of your experiences.

I've had a copy of the old TSR boardgame Divine Right for years, but confess that I haven't done much with it. :oops:

1. I agree that it's a cool world, and very DCC-like.

2. There is a lot of neat stuff online about Mineria, much of it from the golden era of Dragon magazine, so if anyone is looking for a world which is really filled out there are some great resources out there.

3. The map by itself is fantastic, as well. In fact, the names on the map are cool enough that you could run a "sandbox" campaign there and just make up the details instead of using the official information.

Sigh. Now I have to go to the storage area and hunt for my copy... :wink:

Hi, I'm new to these boards but I have a question about Divine Right for DCC.

I am planning on a new DCC campaign starting in March and I want to use Mineria as the setting. Like jonchappellnow2 said, I just think the original map is the greatest fantasy rpg map ever made. I also think it is perfect match for DCC. I have the original TSR game and a few old Dragon magazine articles, but I do not have the the 25th anniversary edition with its cool CD rom full of articles and history. Does anybody know if these articles and the various background material for Maneria are available anywhere on the web? Or do I need to any up the 150+ bones for the 2nd edition and/or scour the land for old Dragon issues? Any info would be great.

If looking for a campaign setting, least till GG releases their own, look at Blackmarsh. You down load it for free of buy the print version for less than $10.00.

I "hexed" the map that was posted earlier. According to the rules, each hex is 50 miles! Huge map (74 x 65 / 3700 x 3250 miles).

For reference: The continental United States extends 4,662 km (2,897 mi) from ENE to WSW and 4,583 km (2,848 mi) from SSE to NNW.

I broke down and bought the 25th anniversary addition which has the CD of the Minerian Legends. For those who don't know, the Legends were a long running series of articles run in Dragon magazine between 1980 and 1982 that detailed the Divine Right board game world as an RPG setting. Like the map, they are very appendix N'ish having been published when the fantasy RPG genre was in its early development. I think there were a few articles in other magazines as well. The articles were sytem-less; just stories really. Mineria is very open. Its long on character and short on confining detail. It is a great fit for DCC. I start my Minerian DCC campaign this weekend. :mrgreen:

Xoth is excellent. The adventures are top notch. I'm not sure if their a perfect fit for DCC, but the world and the adventures should fit very well with Tales from the Fallen Empire, as they have a distinct Hyborian flavor.

Blackmarsh is way cool too, and a lot cheaper! I think it is better fit for DCC than Xoth (just my opinion). If Goodman was going to a setting for DCC, Rob Conley would get my vote (as if I had one) as the guy to do it. All of of his settings and maps have that old-school feel that works for DCC.

So ... if I have the 1E Divine Right board game and a full run of the Dragon magazine articles, is there much that I'm missing in the 25th Anniversary edition? I hate to spend so much money on something only to find out that it's essentially what I already own.

You have a have a full run of Dragon the magazine articles?...That's cool. The 25th anniversary edition isn't cheap. It was a limited run (1000 copies if memory serves) and a used copy regularly sells for $100-$200 on Ebay. There were other Minerian Legend articles published in other magazines around the same era (1980-'82), but I don't know much about them. There is a discussion over at Dragonsfoot that discusses the articles on the CD and not all of these are from Dragon:

I know that there are other articles as well that are not on the CD as I have an old SPI mag with a Minerian article around here somewhere that is not on the CD. There are articles out there, but I don't know if anyone has cataloged them or not, so finding them could be a problem

The 25th ed map is slightly different and not quite as insperational for an RPG as the original in my opinion. It is more durable, however. The intermediate and advanced rules in the 25th ed. also have some brief (1 paragraph) stories and descriptions of playing pieces and map locations like the Buried Caravan, Forest of the Lurking, Cataclysmic Hyyx, Khos the destroyer, Ogsbogg the Ogre king of Stump Hole, and some of the artifacts of the Eaters of Wisdom.

All of this stuff, however, is just fluff. None of it is even remotely necessary to use the world as a campaign. Its just interesting food for thought. I don't treat anything here as sacred; I just like the look of the map and the sound of the names. For example, in the Legends, the Eaters of Wisdom are a fairly bog-standard thamauturgical school, but because of the cool name, I am using them as a fanatical/Lawful cult of wizard and magic hunters who believe that knowledge and magic is the epitome of chaos, therefore the only salvation for the world is ignorance and oblivion. The point is, I see all this goofy old gaming stuff as inspiration rather than a constraint. Meneria is good for that kind of open feel because everything about is kind of artsy and vague. :)

Well, I have the Dragon magazine archive on DVD, which had all of the issues of Strategic Review and Dragon #1-250 in PDF format. I no longer have most of my paper copies of the magazine, since they took up so much space.

I am just going to wait for GG to publish their own campaign setting. It will be added onto my Blackmarsh campaign setting along with Troll of Mistwood maps and my own creations.

Let's all push for a DCC campaign setting. DCC needs one to call its own.

Well, it certainly would be cool to have an official DCC setting but in the meantime it's nice to see suggestions of other settings which fit the mood of the game. 8)
