Dmg 1d6-1=3

Smilin' Lyle slips down the rough passage, landing in a heap with his head at an odd angle from his body, ironic smile frozen on his face.

Deepwell picks himself up and is shocked to find Lyle did not survive the fall. Rurik continues his way down, nearing the bottom...

As Deepwell starts to get his bearings he finds Lyle's lifeless body suddenly swelling rapidly to great size. New limbs spring out of Lyle's sides and his face transforms into a pair of giant mandibles! Within a couple of seconds, what was Lyle has become a giant, bloated BUG!!

Everyone roll for initiative.

I got a 5.

Fenris, any of your folks above can act. The 'pit' where the missing bit of floor is slopes away, not falling straight down. Still, they can just make out an enormous bug, like a giant, bloated tick, menacing Deepwell! They can make ranged attacks on a d16 (for range and angle), or can start climbing down to try to help him -- or maybe you have other ideas...

If anyone who hasn't rolled comes in and rolls a higher initiative, we'll get them in the line up asap and have them in their proper position on round 2.

Sighting the abomination closing on Deepwell, Brother Mordecai has an idea...
Mordecai: "Does anyone have a torch? Mr. Hammon, light that sack of offal and toss 'er down before that beast! We've got to buy 'im some time!"
Mordecai grasps for any offered torch and lights the sack of nightsoil, while Mr. Hammon tosses the flaming bag of dung at the creature!
Mr. Hammon: atk (1D16+1)=5

IF no one is about them with a handy torch, both men descend instead, rolling terribly:
Mr. Hammon: AGI+1=9, dmg 1D6-1=1
Brother Mordecai: AGI-1=4, dmg 1d6-1=5 DEAD!

I HOPE someone with a torch is in fact nearby...

Rurik finishes his climb and draws his club with an Init of 7
Swinging the club at the bug: To hit: 15, if it hits, 3 points of damage.

Wilbure starts to climb down: 17 and makes it to the bottoms, next round he will have an init of 11 (10+1)

Okar up above pulls out a torch and hands it to Mordecai.

Excellent, so no one died trying to climb down to fight the bug.

So 15 is indeed a hit. The massive insect is bashed soundly before completely transformed, but still has fight left in it!

A sack of flaming poo lands near the beast, FWIW.

The hulking creature trundles at Deepwell, mandibles clacking loudly!

Atk roll: 8
If somehow that is a hit: 1 point of damage by pincer.

Next round!

I got a 1 for initiative!
This is seriously hampering my ability to slay you all!!

And it's easier to roll one initiative number for all your zeroes to act on.

Rurik and Wilbure Init: 3+1 = 4
Rurik to hit: 7+0=7 I am sure that is a miss
Wilbure to hit: 18+1=19 as he stumbles down the last few feet with his pitchfork out he stabs it for a whopping 7+1=8 points of damage.

Init (+1)=11
Shrugging at the failed attempt, both men climb down...
Mr. Hammon: AGI (+1)=6, dmg (-1)=4
Brother Mordecai: AGI(-1)=9, dmg (-1)=1 (would a roll of 1-1 be 0, or a minimum of 1?)
...tumble rather roughly, and attempt to regain thier feet before the creature is upon them!

Somehow, though completely startled by his companion's change, Deepwell avoids the attack.

Int: 3

Deepwell brings his shield(dutch oven cover) around and swings with an 8 to hit.

Deepwell swings valiantly, but misses the grotesque creature before him!

It would be a zero. Somehow, Brother Mordecai manages to avoid anything sharp or jagged and rolls unharmed to the base of the pit.

Wilbure drives his pitchfork into the beast with a loud ~crunch~ killing it instantly...

Deepwell realizes he's staring at a door set into the wall, colored to blend in, but not otherwise disguised. He'd landed up against it in the initial fall, but hadn't taken it in at the time.

Better! Oddly enough, the D&D Dice Roller I use on my laptop uses a minimum of 1.

Mordecai landed miraculously unharmed, perhaps cushioned by a smoldering sack of offal, perhaps on the larger and clearly badly bruised Mr. Hammon. Neither man will speak of it. Mordecai regards the dead creature, poking and prodding with his staff...

Does it bear any resemblance to Lyle? Are his belongings apparent and retrievable?

Lyle accoutrements are all present and accounted for, shed when his body transmogrified. Shreds of his clothing are present, too, but nothing about this monstrosity bears any resemblance to Lyle.

Deepwell would have been devastated by the transformation and death of Lyle, once he got his head around it, if it wasn't for the door. He is completely excited by the limitless possibilities and starts examining it.

Mordecai concludes that the bug-beast must have devoured Lyle. He murmurs a quiet prayer for his wayward soul as he gathers what he can.

The door responds to Deepwell's merest touch, opening about five inches by sliding into the wall, then there is a deep scraping sound and it slowly grinds open the rest of the way...

Beyond there is a flight of stair immediately to the left, going up, and a hallway leading straight out.

We'll have to assume other the player characters are staying behind up top for the moment. I think we'll just press on and deal with the situation as it needs dealing with.

Who am I missing? I'll admit, I've lost track slightly...

But I do know we have Nate still above at the entrance! Yes, my notes aren't good for everything, but they are good for something.

I thought other than Nate, we were only missing characters from players we're not hearing from lately...
