Out of curiosity, are kith "race as class" or do they have their own set of classes?

You may level up two of your characters. The rest stay as level 0's. The idea is simple: not everyone has what it takes to be a hero.

Does this mean that those we don't level-up will never level-up? Or is there room that if our leveled characters die, the zeroes (if they still live) could then level-up...?

Kith are a race as class and they are brutal.

Those who you don't choose to level up will never rank up to level 1. You get the luxury of choosing that those with more dead characters don't have.

You can still use your zeros. They can carry heavy loads, use their skills, or take hits and die horribly.

We are reaching the point where we have kinda left the bounds of the funnel as printed.

In the tumult of stranger and stranger surroundings, Havarth and Lucius have been hearing whispers.

In the Void, near the Green Star, where the newer more powerful gods cannot see as clearly, being so very far away from this place, two of the gods of forgotten times, gods nearly themselves forgotten to mortals make themselves known to these two men. Zikcub and Verlore appear to Havarth and Lucius, and seek their aid...

The two dusty gods can share power with the mortals, in exchange for service and worship. The forgotten gods seek a return to power, seeing the Eternal Conflict as going poorly, as run by the current crop of immortals. Through Havarth and Lucius, they seek to reclaim their place in the minds and hearts of mortals and thus return to power.

The mortals agree, out of desperation yes, and out of kinship, too. They can see the mutual powerlessness that these gods and themselves have, though in different measure, and see, too, that the struggles and goals that they and these immortals have are not so different.

Immediately, both are imbued with new strength and new knowledge.

With the dusty gods at their backs, the two men stride forward with renewed force, ready to face the next challenges of the Purple Planet!

A NOTE ABOUT SPELLS:

For Wizards:
You have two columns of Mercurial Magic: your normal Mercurial Magic and your Purple Planet Mercurial Magic. The first time you cast a spell under the influence of the Purple Planet's Sun, I'll roll on the Purple Planet Mercurial Magic table and assign you an effect! You'll only have to deal with one Mercurial Magic effect (normal or Purple Planet) per spell cast.

For Clerics:
The weird Sun has similar effects on Clerics! The first time you cast a spell under the influence of the Purple Planet's Sun, I'll roll on the Purple Planet Mercurial Magic table and assign you an effect!

Arvis and Beega finally actualize all for which they have trained and fought thier entire brutal lives. They will show thier new clan what it is to be kith and bring honor to the Masters thereby!

From what I read (thanks, btw) they STILL don't speak Common, am I right?

So Blackthorn... Are we going to be unanimous in all of the non-Kith characters being either Wizards or Clerics...??

No pressure. 8)

If you own the Purple Planet box, you may notice that there are Patron modifiers (some positive, some negative) for being on the Purple Planet.

I'm not going to apply them, because I think it's unfair to characters created in a Purple Planet campaign to say "You get a -2 to all Patron rolls because you picked the frog guy."

Maybe just make them work a little extra harder to stay in the frog guy's graces, being so far away...

Oh, decisions, decisions... I was going to go with cleric and wizard but there are so many. I assume the Kith will fill our warrior requirement but it would be nice to have a thief in the house... give me a minute...

Kith seem very Ranger/Barbarian and can search for traps if I understand it. Balance~wise, I think we'll be fine.
Imagine, however, the kith reaction if ALL the outlanders develop spellcasting talent... surely gods or their agents walk among them! Fun RP angle there...

Blackthorn is not sure about this band of outcasts. He doesn’t know where he fits in and feels like an outsider. He knows he survived through a good amount of dumb luck and dexterity. (Burned 6 luck during the funnel) He feels like he has something to offer his new acquaintances, but is keenly aware that he is no hero. He is tired of being "Blackshield," and would rather hide in the shadows and strike when he can defeat a foe without so much needless effort and risk to himself. His blade, hidden in the shadows will be the Black Thorn that his foes come to fear. He takes the path of the Rogue Treasure Hunter (Thief)

Duke, on the other hand, has tasted the fruit of power and seen into the abyss that is the chaos of the stars. She has found in herself a deep and dark well of mystic energy both in her birth stars and her natural talents. Perhaps all this has been too much too soon. Her alignment has definitely shifted over the last few days and she now finds herself hopelessly and endearingly embracing the loving arms of the lords of Chaos. Never again will she be called Damnit Duke; she is now Duke the Damned. She is taking the path of the Enchantress of Chaos (Wizard)

So will our home world merc magic only effect us when on our home world and the pp merc magic you roll will be the one in effect here? Also is the table different? This could be really interesting.

I forgot to mention that I pulled/adapted my forlorn gods from the Petty Gods book.

It's a free pdf, if anyone's never heard of it, but curious...

I'll read through that PDF some on Sunday when I have some free time. I'm a big believer in interaction between a Wizard and their Patron / a Priest and their God.

To clarify on the Mercurial Magic stuff:

You only use the Purple Planet Mercurial Magic when you are under the influence of the Purple Planet's Sun (the green star). If you are deep underground, or on a faraway world, or in another dimension, etc... then Wizards use their original Mercurial Magic and Priests are not effected by Mercurial Magic as usual.

Cool, thanks for the clarification. That should be entertaining!

And Now On With the Show

Qort, Arvis, and Blackthorn are investigating the Death Rays. The one on the left-hand side of the ship is damaged and not working. The one on the right-hand side seems functional. Both have compartments that seem intact; either of them can be opened with a Strength Check (DC 12); they are large and haven't been operated in perhaps centuries.

Beega seems too large to board the ship, but the pedestal does not seem to have changed in size since you first saw it. He is floating slightly above it.

Nurzual and Brandybland open the door. Havarth, Toby, and Duke wait behind them. Inside there is a small round chamber. There are six glass tubes, upright, with frozen bodies inside them. They seem to be bodies of Ythothian Raiders. There are three monstrous cyborgs maintaining them; as soon as the door opens, they turn and advance on the party.

They look like Kith, covered in silvery wires, with bronze-like metal coating their arms and legs. Their elbows seem to be piston-powered. They have a blank, mindless look to their faces, almost like zombies. They do not seem friendly.

The ship continues to sail away from the Green Sun and towards Beega, who is standing near the Purple Planet and is still of titanic size. The eye beast ship fires a beam at your ship:
Attack roll is a 20.
Your shields absorb some of the blow, but then flicker and fail.
Your ship rocks violently as part of the lower decks is disintegrated. Kelven can now see out into the void of space through a large hole nearby. Anybody know a good carpenter?

(Note: This game uses the classical "Space as Aether" and not our modern understanding of space. You're not being sucked out into a vacuum)

What will you do?

Nurzual squawks at the fearful sight of the zomborgs headed toward them and unleashes his first spell ... Color Spray! His spell check comes to 17 (roll of 15, +2 for level and int modifier) ... he targets the closest two zomborgs, who must make a Will save of 17 or be blinded for 1d4 rounds.

Qort sees the terrifying eye-creature vessel about to destroy the group's ship and wails out to the cosmos, "If there are any gods out there looking for followers, please come and help us, and I'll do whatever you want!"

With the Judge's permission, Berenedril, petty god of folly, stupidity, and blind luck, decides to bring Qort into his fold. This will require a change from Neutral to Chaotic on Qort's part, which he may end up regretting.

Brandybland looks for somewhere to hide, as everyone around her suddenly seems to be a lot more powerful than she is.

Duke casts Enlarge and taps Toby the Squire (since he has a long sword) she rolls 19+3=22.

Toby doubles in size, becoming ogre-sized, receiving a +4 bonus to attacks, damage, and AC due to greater size and strength. In addition, the He receives +10 hp from the new size. These hit points are lost first when the wounded, and damage suffered while giant-sized transfers to his normal hit point pool only if he loses all 10 bonus hit points.

<now to find out if we just TPKed ourselves via mercurial magic results>

Blackthorn mans the working Death Ray and takes a potshot at the pursuing ship rolling a natural 20+1=21 and a critical hit. His eyes go wide at surprise at his lucky shot.

<that is if the death ray didn’t explode in his face>

[[ Looks like we were posting at the same time... Even with the bonuses, it looks like Toby misses this round :? But yeah, looking forward to all the mercurials...! ]]

Havarth and Toby rush forward to attack the metallic Kith, but...

Before Havarth steps forward, Lucius claps his hand on him and calls upon his new deity, "Verlore, heal this man, so that he and I might work for you together!"

With a spellcheck of 12, Havarth is healed for one Hit Die: 7 points! More than enough to bring Havarth back to full!

Toby's Attack with Sword: 4...

Havarth's Attack with Glaive: 5...

Clearly these guys need more practice...

Meanwhile, Kelven begins a panicked search below decks, looking for anything that might act as a weapon he can launch at the alien ship!

It's a free pdf, if anyone's never heard of it, but curious...
