Fritz closes the door & turns to Hector & Darrow in the corridor. "I was hoping that the room I just saw would have a door heading east that would give us access to the room with our trapped comrades. There's only a door that heads west. Perhaps there's a door into the prison room from the courtyard."

Chendris, and everybody, feels like this is about ground level... based on what they could see in the dark outside, there's at least one floor above this one. As far as air, that's a legitimate concern. The chamber is getting pretty smoky from the torch...

The characters are also pretty tired at this point, it being about 2 a.m., so far as they can reckon.

Alright, since looking around at these floor tiles is getting no where Thorin yells, " get my pickaxe and just knock a hole in one of these walls. We are on the outside level and the walls are old and crumbly with the morter weakened with age. You all hear me out there?"

"Portly Trim," Fosco says while looking his way, "any luck on those doors yet? Did you try sliding those bottons instead of pushing them?" Fosco, sits on his butt and looks way up at the ceiling...

Portly Trim replies "The button has no give on them at all Fosco." He hands Fosco some of his iron rations. "You look a bit worn out. Have a bite to eat, keep your strength up."

Then he calls out to Thorin. "We can take turns with the pickaxe. It shouldn't take too long to break through to the courtyard."

Thanking him for the offer of food and drink Fosco looks over at Portly. " If, I mean when we get out of here you are invited over to my dwelling. While there, over a lage meal, we can share stories of this place and the riches we have gathered."

Thorin, grumbles and kicks the dirt. Speaking to those outside the door..."my pickaxe is where the beast attaked us. Could you all go back and pick it up than rush back here? I need you to start knocking a hole in one of these walls." Thorin waits for a reply."Sound like a plan?"

Thorin, starts to get a little upset."What is taking Fritz, Hector, and Darrow so long to get that bloody pick?" While waiting he will go over to the north door and try to press in some of the buttons using all his muscle power.

Portly Trim sits down next to Fosco. "Thank you. That sounds excellent. I like food. Is halfling food different than the stuff the big folks eat?"

Fosco, replies... "of course! Here", digging deep into his backpack, "try some of my mushroom and taters. I dried them out before coming here."

OOC...yep just waiting. Is Gnomeboy still playing?I hope so. We could really use least 1-2 more players to help finish this. Did anyone else send game invites?

[Sorry -- AFK much of yesterday]

So we have two plans - go get that bug-thing and see if it has a key OR break down the wall...

Let's see how quickly this breaking down the wall thing goes -- if it becomes tedious, maybe the key idea is the better one... air in there may not last forever.

Neither Hector nor Darrow have anything on them that'd be much good for chipping away the wall. They'll let Fritz start on that, and search these two nearby rooms we've already peeked into to see if there is any sort of 'tool' that could be put to that use.

Flavia and Chendris re-jigger that torch on the end of the 10-ft-pole again, so as to inspect the ceiling.

[I will be AFK for the next two days (probably), so carry on without me. Beer, I don't know if your GM style includes PCs of a player not present to do anything, but if so, I'll just generally try to help out/support whatever the rest of the party comes up with.]

Ok. Darrow and Hector are poking through the debris in the old kitchen/pantry.

Inside the prison room, the group looks at the ceiling. (Think Aliens type stuff, guys...) It's very unusual, but doesn't seem malevolent in and of itself.

Fritz the Bold walks back to where the body of the wizard's apprentice lay, to retrieve the dwarf's pick. What he sees as he arrives surprises him: The body is gone, and a human man, middle aged and clothed in rugged pants and shirt plus a greasy smock or apron, is crouched down with a lantern, examining the sandy floor where the body was. The dwarf's pick leans against the wall next to the man. He looks up at Fritz, surprised himself.

The man snarls a curse as Fritz strikes him in the arm while he stands, then he barks some strange unknown words and makes a weird gesture at Fritz. Roll a will save, DC 21.

Fritz, to his abject horror, sees the fabric of reality rip and dissolve and something like the creature he'd seen before appear and step through, over the man, advancing on him, alien mandibles clicking and dripping poisonous slime... oh but it's worse than that, much worse, this thing walks straight out of his nightmares, a thing incomprehensible and malevolent, decomposing heads impaled on spikes sticking out of the things shoulders and back, each one moaning the terrible things' name. For a fraction of an instant, Fritz's mind desperately tries to block out their voices, and then something in him snaps and he screams, a long, loud, high scream of pure madness and terror. He turns and flees, sprinting into the room where Darrow and Hector are searching amid the rubble. Fritz dives into the biggest pile and curls up into the fetal position, shivering uncontrollably, his eyes wild and his heart pounding so loud the two others can hear it.

Fosco, talking close to the west door. "Fritz, Hector, and Darrow did you all notice the order of buttons the creature used when shutting the doors?" Looking at the north door he says, "see if you also gain access to the north room. It is ahead of us and has a door leading into our room. Maybe it can be opened from that side."
