Nobody said anything about searching, so I don't think your supposition is correct... but anyway, on with the action.

As Thorin, Gandolf, and Fosco peer into the next chamber, there is a strange, alien noise and two somethings from above, like two long/slender spider's legs, strike down, one impaling the wizard's apprentice (4 damage) and the other seizing the dwarf by the neck, hoisting him up off the floor. Fosco shrieks in terror as something monstrous falls to the floor from above, screeches in a loud voice "Please! Don't hurt me!" and then strides away into the darkness in the blink of an eye, dragging the flailing dwarf who would scream but for the tight claws squeezing his throat shut.

Surprise round over, and the monster fled (through another archway immediately to the north on the other side of this open archway), so no need for initiative.

Fosco's terror abates and he regains his wits.

(GnomeBoy, you can post the drawing whenever you're ready... )

We're moving toward the voices. If we don't know/can't tell where the voices were coming from, we approach all options... moving as silently as we can, listening, and keeping eyes open...

The other chamber, beyond the archway in the first hall, is barren, although the floor is sandy and dusty with the passing of the centuries. Across from the archway, perhaps 30 or 40 feet distant, is another set of ancient, wooden double doors. Directly to the right, on the north wall, is the open archway through which the creature fled with the dwarf. You can't hear anything over the thumping of your own hearts...

OOC...Thorin has no chance to break out?

Fosco, runs after the dwarf. Staying in shadows and using his infravision he looks for his friend.

Nope, Thorin quickly loses consciousness from the lack of air, he has no idea where he is or if he is alive or not. (We'll find that out later on . . . )

Just through the archway on the north is a hallway about 10 feet wide, which runs to the west several feet. Fosco may have infravision, so he can see heat, but he can't see in the dark, and so he's not sure how long the hallway is. Will he immediately run to the west?

Fosco will watch the beast as far as he can and carefully make his way toward it's direction after lighting up a torch.

OOC...He will search for traps and call out for the others to come quickly.

He doesn't see the creature, and by the time he's lit a torch, and can see the end of the hallway some 40 feet or so distant, just barely visible in the dim light, it's long gone, and Thorin with it.

Remember, this is DCC... if you want to search for traps, tell me what you're actually, physically doing. There's no generic "search" roll.

"Thank you Porty Trim. Your extra light sure helps. We need to wait fort he others before going any deeper. But we can at least go to the end of this passage and see if we can spot where the beast stole our Dwarf off to." Fosco gives Portly Trim a fast smile. "You with me?"

Fosco, bitting his lip agrees with Mr. Portly Trim. "Yes, lets take a walk and see if we can save him." Torch lite and scanning the area for monsters (roll 12) and traps (roll 11) he and Protly make their way among the mess and toward the direction the dwarf was carried off.

The hallway is clear of debris, though dusty and sandy. It goes forty feet to the west, then turn north. To the north, you see the hallway continue, and there's a door, wooden and ancient, on the east wall, just ten feet or so to the north. There's no sign of Thorin or the creature...

[I'm just realizing that when I made my post that's at the top of this page, I hadn't actually read page 7 yet and was posting from the end of page 6 -- so now I know why I was so confoozed.]

Darrow jumps forward and slips the torch from it's 'cradle' at the end of the ten-foot pole, directing Flavia to rattle the pole against the hallway as she and he run down it.

"Speed is of the essence now -- if we hope to rescue our compatriot!"

Basically Flavia's swinging the pole around as rapidly as she can (Str 10) in a circular motion so it traces a 'spiral' across floor, walls and ceiling of the hall approximately 8 feet in front of Darrow and she run/jpg down it. Hector is not far behind them. Chendris pauses for a moment in sheer disbelief, watching them press forward.

There's room for someone to the right of Flavia, if a sword-arm is handy... [hint hint]

Luck scores: Darrow 12, Flavia 7, Hector 10. -- Not sure why I bring that up.

"Portly Trim, do you hear that?" Pointing down the hall from where they just came from. "It must be Dawwor and the others. They are headed our way. Let's wait till we are all together before meeting up to this monsters?"

Darrow and the others quickly catch up to Portly Trim and Fosco, who are standing at the end of the hallway, where it turns to the north. Darrow and company now see what Portly Trim and Fosco saw: a door on the east wall, just to your north, and the darkened, sandy-floored stone hallway that stretches to the north. The extent of it is lost to the edges of your dim torchlight. But you think you see another possible doorway on the east wall just outside the torchlight.

After finding no signs of life, Fritz removes the black book & the crowbar from the body of the wizard's apprentice. He places these items in his sack, then goes to the right of Flavia, his club drawn ready for enemies.

Yes, you see a hallway headed north with two doors on the east side. You can't see the end of the hallway. You can just barely make out the second door in the dim torchlight.

Fearing more attacks Fosco will leave no room unchaecked. He heads to the 1st door and listens for noises inside.

Oh I forgot, that encounter was worth +1 XP to everybody... So I think you're about halfway to level 1 (except Portly Trim is slightly ahead).

Chendris inspects the second door, looking for any signs of recent activity. If he sees none, he moves a bit further along the corridor...

...while Hector attempts to open the door...
