It's just the Holidays.

The dwarves don't see any signs of hot beings, aside from the party. There's a large pile of broken stone, and twisted rusting metal sticks up through it like splintered bones. If you're careful, you could enter the ruined structure here. It seems like the wind is less harsh inside what looks like a large open courtyard.

Who's carrying torches?

Gandolf, digs into his backpack, and pulls out a torch. Lighting it and looks around. Fosco, takes advantage of the added light by staying close to the Wizard. Thorin, lookng at the other Dwarf, say, " well now let enter."

Staying close to the walls and looking for possible attackers, like archers, they enter the ruins. Knowing that this open area is a perfect place to ambuse the adventures my characters stay close to the walls and use as much cover as possible.

Clambering over the rubble, you have entered what looks like a walled compound. A large open courtyard isin front of you (North). The walls to your left (east/west) and right (this one heads North) are largely intact. Standing directly before you is a human figure. You can't make out any details in the dim torchlight.

"Nothing good can come from this place." Gandolf says. He than tosses a buring flask of oil near the figure looming within the courtyard.

Fosco, takes cover and draws his blade.

Thorin, steps back, draws his pick and readies himself for any attack. He looks right than left and ever so carfully he turns and takes a peek from behind before facing the creature in the courtyard.

Cover is easily had on the rubble pile. Gandolf throws a lit oil flash which breaks near the figure. The oil burns brightly, carrying orange shadows... with a snarl, the figure turns and lurches at you, arms outstretched. You can see it seems to be some sort of animated corpse, similar to the ones that attacked the camp, but this one has lost most of the flesh from its bones. A dull, low snarling gurgle rumbles up from within it. You notice, though, that the thing is chained to a large rock, and the collar around its neck prevents it from getting any closer. But you'll have to get closer to it to get by....

Portly Trim picks up any loose rocks he can find in the rubble & starts chucking them at the corpse.

Throwing small rock at the corpse certainly gets its attention focused on Portly Trim, but doesn't appear to do any real damage.

However, Portly Trim needs to roll a reflex save, DC 10. (Good luck.)

Driven to the edge of sanity by another walking corpse, Hector rushes to his compatriots with the unlit torch he had in hand. He approaches the thing, and keeping his distance as best he can, flails at it's outstretched arms and hands, hoping to do it some harm.

Cudgel - rolled a whopping 2 -- *sigh*

Chendris, Darrow and Flavia move to where the action is...

Hector flails at the thing and distracts it from the stones that were being thrown at it.

(Currently awaiting the outcome of the saving throw...)

The party is more or less standing on top of a rubble pile, which is basically a hole in the exterior wall of some large compound/structure. Dim torchlight doesn't illuminate much beyond the chained corpse-thing.

When he reaches down, he grabs something that feels like furry, soft, tanned hide. Immediately after that he experiences a sharp, searing pain in his hand and screams out, shaking his hand violently in the air- there's a 4 foot long viper fangs-deep on his hand! He manages to fling the thing off his hand; it disappears into the dark rubble pile.

He drops his torch during this process, by the way.

Clutching his snakebitten hand, Portly Trim can see that there's definitely something wedged among the rocks beneath his feet. His hand positively throbs, though...

Portly Trim realises he has been bitten by a poisonous snake & tries to suck the venom out of his throbbing hand. Re-lighting the torch will have to wait.

Fritz notices the others engaging the undead horror in melee & grabs his weapon to join them in the fight.

Initiative roll 5.

Attack roll 12.

Damage roll 1

Initiative rolls aren't necessary, the thing is chained up and easily dispatched. The dwarf's pickaxe makes short work of the corpse, although like the others it keeps moving until its head is smashed.

Portly Trim can attempt a Fortitude save, DC 15.

+1 XP for everyone, +2 for Portly Trim.

Portly Trim sucks a little bit of a strange liquid out of the wound and spits it on the ground. His hand still throbs painfully, and there's an odd taste in his mouth now, and his tongue feels a bit thick. But nothing immediately terrible happens to him...

After bashing the destroyed thing a bit more to be sure it is immobile, Hector lights his torch and that of anyone else who wants it (my other three, at least). My portion of the party cautiously explores the courtyard. Darrow stays generally in the middle, arrow notched and ready. Flavia makes good use of the 10-foot pole she has. Hector is rather jumpy, and thinks he sees lots of things, but keeps his panic down enough to not cry danger at the slightest pebble. Chendris mutters in gnoll, listening for a response...

(You can pick whoever you want it to be, except for GnomeBoy's chars, who have moved into the interior courtyard...)

In the dim light, you see what looks like the top of a hide boot. What kind of hide, you're not certain... it doesn't look like regular ol' camel leather, that's for sure.

Okay.... Fosco and Portly Trim see the aforementioned top of the hide boot, wedged in the rubble under your feet.

Fosco, seeing that nothing is attached to the boot, gives it a pull...loosening from the rubble. "Now, what have we got here?"

The boot comes up in hand with some light pulling, revealing another, mated boot beneath it; both are of the same, odd hide, almost furry, and very soft. After you pull up the first boot, you see a little movement within the other boot. There's a good chance another snake is nestled within, so some care will need to be exercised if you want to pull up the boot and dump out the creature.

Fosco looks over at Gandolf. "Now you see when I bump out the other boot you get ready to club whatever creepy thing that happens to fall out." Gandolf, readies his staff far above his head and waites...

Carefully, Fosco uses his long sword to lift the other boot and than to dump its contents onto the dirty ground. "Here we go now..."
