Show off your Appendix N

Post by goodmangames »

Here's a photo of my collection -- let's see yours. :)

Note: this photo doesn't include Clark Ashton Smith, William Hope Hodgson, or others who perhaps "should" be in Appendix N but aren't. This is "pure"!

I also have a couple books out on loan -- my collection has become something of a lending library among my friends. But this is most of it...

Joseph, you have me beat. Here's my collection from Appendix N.

The books in the upper left are the Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings from the Folio Society. (My pride and joy!)

I have no idea how to shrink this picture.

Edit: I realized I have two of Anderson's Vault of Ages!

I can't compete with either of those, so I'll just go with the only part that really matters. :P

Here's what I've gathered so far.

Image

The top two are Lovecraft collections of short stories.

I plan on getting more REH, like Solomon Kane and Kull, once I've gone through the Conan stories.

I wanted to find all four Lankhmar hardcovers with the Mike Mignola artwork, but was only able to find the first one.

Nice collections, guys! It's neat to see all the different artwork. There are a lot of cool covers (of Moorcock and Lieber especially) that I haven't seen before.

My jealousy is a writhing evil.

I have some treasured Arkham House hardcovers and the Ace paperback
Fritz Leiber books and some other older paperbacks (Robert E. Howard
especially) but some of you have got some enviable collections going.

Nice work.

I took this a while ago, but haven't had the time to share until now.

Also included Flashing Swords anthologies because they have many Appx N authors in them, and Swords & Dark Magic because it contains new Elric and Cugal adventures!

I'm missing my HP Lovecraft anthology, I think I lent it out.

I am proud to say I own the complete Nightshade editions of Clark Ashton Smith. Those were pricey but worth it.

This is a cool thread. Unfortunately, I cannot directly contribute to it for two reasons: my entire Appendix N collection is in storage and I don't possess a digital camera. To make matters worse, most of my Appendix N yarns are in their original pulp era magazine appearances. Being as such magazines are oftentimes 90-100 years old, I am reluctant to to expose them to bright light and such for the purposes of photographing them. As an aside, I consider myself an antiquarian first and a RPG gamer/collector second. Being as even the earliest RPG material is no older than 30-odd years old, I don't consider such all that collectible. In other words, my cut off for collecting vintage genre fiction is 1950 or thereabouts, even though I do possess a few trashy Daw paperbacks from the 1970s, being as such were where many of Michael Moorcock's yarns first appeared.

Sincerely,
Alphonso Warden

Yes, good thread. I had a fair number of these books but lent them out never to return so I can't photograph my collection as I don't know where it is :D

I read 'The Moon Pool' the other day. Bonkers! Not what I was expecting.
I think it's some Edgar Rice Burroughs next... Tarzan I think.

I started gathering the DeCamp and Carter Conans seeing as how all of the Howard purists hate those books (I don't know why!). I have a feeling with the new Howard only volumes, you will never see the others again.

After years of wanting them I finally broke down and bought them through Amazon used. Cost me way too much, but they were worth it! 8)

Hey Caveman, I love the covers to those early editions of LotR. I have 2 of 'em and the early cover of The Hobbit. In high school ('78?) I had a t-shirt w/ the trilogy artwork from that edition on it. Wish I could find another (2 sizes bigger now).

I'd post my collection, but it would be mainly a photo of a Nook Tablet. (Almost everything else is in storage.)

Most of this beyond the Burroughs and Lovecraft has been collected in the last two years, sometimes in and out of small book stores found while on camping trips, starting back in the run-up to the Beta release of DCC RPG. Most of the second image I haven't yet read. I'm part way through the Shadow Kingdoms collection, and almost done with Eyes.

Somehow I left out the Face In The Frost from both pictures; and A Princess of Mars is missing since it is on my son's reading stack, and I forgot to grab it.

I know there are a few other Appendix N books I've read over the years, but can't remember which titles/authors to speak of...

Of course, the book in the lower corner isn't Appendix N -- just a cool find while searching for App N books!

I love to see the collections and picking out the books I also have in my own library. Being a friend of the local library always helps when the sales come along :)
