Elric is a great example of a DCC character because he already makes use of Patron-style magic!

I've seen a few different interpretations for Elric, but essentially I'd make him a fighter/wizard combo with a few tweaks:
1) I'd treat Melniboneans a lot like elves overall.
2) I'd give him dual stats for his phyiscal stats (STR, AGL, and STA) to represent when he's weak versus when he's strong. (Recall that he uses either drugs or Stormbringer to keep him strong.)
3) I'd go with more fighter than wizard. The exact levels come down to how you run your campaign, but if you cap out at roughly 10th level I'd give him a 6/4 or 7/3 fighter/wizard split.
4) Stormbringer is a kick-booty magic item. It has intelligence and can suck souls.

Stormbringer is more than an item I tink. Its a demon!

I remember after it ate Elric it jumped into the universe with all its joyous being. Im sure it just bargained with Elrics forefathers to assume the shape of a sword... or a sword is its natural shape!

anyway... it sure acts like a sword + vampire thing.

I think in the final Elric story Moorcock drops some big hints that Stormbringer is actually Satan. So yeah, badass.

I like the dual stats idea. It seems he's got a Con of about 1 unless he's on his drugs or drawing power from StormBringer.

maybe a CON of 0(or less)?

I thought he was dying without the sword.

I'd make him straight wizard with mostly summoning/patron spells.

It's been a while since I read the books, but I remember his fighting prowess to be less than spectacular without Stormbringer.

And Melnibonean was an elder race, not just a nationality, right?

its sum form of human.

Im not sure if it was all stormbringer that did all the fighting, though I thought there were times where it seemed Stormbringer was calling the shots.

Maybe he is an awesome fighter who has his abilities made available to him by the strength that Stormbringer provides?

I would make him a member of the elf class.

Unless you make up a new class...I say Elf.

He is a skilled fighter and sorcerer...the sword augments his ability for the most I think.

Stats can always go up or down temporarily due to magic effects, drugs and items so I should use that approach. I wouldn't double stat him because his improvements due to Stormbringer always seemed to scale depending on the power of the thing it drank from.

Just have spells known as being appropriate to the setting and that should be okay.

The Chaosium Stormbringer stuff is always worth a look as a possible template for conversion. I liked that game except that everybody would always want to play a Melnibonean because they were hands down more powerful than all the other Races.

Not actually dying, but very weak. Moorcock attributes this to Elric being an albino, but there must be more to it than that.

I'd use the Deities and Demigods stats for him. I think he had a STR and CON of 6 without Stormbringer.

So Metal! \m/ \m/

From DnD I think his STR and CON were 6 without Stormbringer and much higher with, >=16 IIRC.

I always viewed the Melniboneans as elves, in the D&D sense. They just weren't the classic Tolkinesque elves, but what would happen if the Tolkien elves decided that they wanted to ride dragons, take drugs, treat with demons and rule the world.
