Charm Person

Post by henis »

Curious if anyone else had noticed under Charm person that it says that a wizard can use charm on an un-dead creature at a -2 penalty and outsiders and demons at a -4. Would this work like normal charm or "turn" in a wizard sense? Since later on in mentions that all un-dead are immune to charm.

I was wondering the same thing!

The book has conflicting statements in there - one saying that the spell works on undead, and the monster entry for all undead states that they are immune to charm effects.

As a house rule, our judge ruled that only intelligent undead can be charmed (at -2, according to the spell). Mindless undead are immune, because you can't charm something without a mind.

Hope the house rule helps.

I think you should feel free to "mix it up" a bit and keep your players guessing. Maybe this particular skeleton is charmable, maybe it isn't. The discussion on pg. 381 should help you decide if you want to make a particular undead immune to charm or not.
