A real quick question: Do you think there are too many Synthetic and Psion spots on the Occupation Chart? Should I maybe limit them more and then have the exact type rolled up on a separate table, like the Technician Jobs? I was thinking maybe placing them in spots 1-6, instead of 1 through 9, reducing the chance of either to 1 in 12.

And another List Update:

1. Stranded Time Traveler
2. Alien Infiltrator
3. Rogue Synthetic
4. Latent Psion
5. Sentient Weapon
6. Alien - Last of it's Kind
7. Carrier for an Intelligent Alien Disease
8. Connected to Twin by Personal Wormhole
9. Parallel Universe Version of Dead Person
10. Evil Version of PC switched from a Mirror Universe
11. Unknowingly an Avatar of a extra-dimensional being
12. Herald of Cosmic Entity
13 Synthetic Infiltrator
14 Escaped Cybernetic Experiment in Hiding
15. Wanted Fugitive in Hiding
16. Last Known Survivor of a Genocidal Purge in Hiding

14 more to go...

18. Half-alien.
19. Has Powers he dare not use (okay, this is one of those things that could ruin a game, but also be brilliant, in the right hands).
20. Exile from a race of Great Power, and stripped of "Powers".
21. King in Peasant clothing.

AJ, the Average Joe is genius. Great way to get the party suspicious of the one guy who rolls on the Weird table, even as he protests his innocence. Or possibly tries to mislead them by telling them he rolled Average Joe. So good, I added it twice.

Raven, Ex-Broker isn't really weird, but I gave it a twist: Corporate Spy. The team is going to start wondering how planetary exploitation teams from The Very Big Corporation manage to find and jump their claims with such frequency.

Test Subject needed more detail, as we already have a victim of Cybernetic Testing and Matter Transportation experiments, so I'm thinking Psionic Induction Test Subject. Basically a person who is another class, but has Psion powers that can go wildly out of control due to experimentation to induce Psionic Power in ordinary humans.

And Failed Scholar was too mundane, so I decided to go with Insane Genius instead. What's a good sci-fi story without a Dr. Hans Reinhardt to put the mad in mad scientist.

Here is the final list:

1. Alien - Infiltrator
2. Alien - Last of its Kind
3. Carrier for an Intelligent Alien Disease
4. Connected to Twin by Personal Wormhole
5. Corporate Spy
6. Drug dealer
7. Escaped Cybernetic Experiment in Hiding
8. Escaped Psion Induction Test Subject (D6 Wild Psion Powers)
9. Evil Version of PC from a Mirror Universe
10. Exiled nobleman
11. Fallen Extra-Dimensional Entity Stripped of Power and Trapped in Human Form
12. Has Extraordinary Power(s) That have Terrible Consequences when Used.
13. Heir to a Dynasty in Hiding
14. Herald of Cosmic Entity
15. In the Interstellar Witness Protection Program
16. Insane Genius (+3 INT, 3 Permanent Psychosis)
17. Just an average Joe with a Weird Vibe
18. Just an average Joe with a Weird Vibe
19. Last Known Survivor of a Genocidal Purge in Hiding
20. Latent Psion
21. Offspring of a Human-Alien Crossbreeding Experiment
22. Parallel Universe Version of Dead PC
23. Rogue Synthetic
24. Sentient Weapon

28. Unknowingly an Avatar of a extra-dimensional being

Yeah, I wanted it to be represented twice. And with that, I've got a D30 chart. Thanks for all your help folks!

Now, at this point, I'm going to be slowly building up the game mechanics with a focus on creating a demo kit complete with adventure and pre-generated characters so folks can get a feel for the direction I'm headed and so I'll have something to show at the Jabberwocky Media Game Demo Day I plan to hold here in the DFW area shortly (possibly January), probably at Madness Comics, where I'll be showing off all of our current in-progress designs including Void Hunters, For Glory! and Quarterback Blitz.

The pre-gens will include 6 level 1 characters (one from each class) and a couple of dozen Redshirts for Meatgrinder purposes, mostly from military occupations, but I might throw a Corporate Liaison, Civilian Contractor and Weird character into the mix. So look for that in the coming weeks...

A brilliant idea from Ragboy arrived in my email yesterday, and I thought I'd share it:

As I was thinking about this adventure and the Void Hunters mileau in
general, I came upon something that might be of interest.

The patron system is one of those core "crunchy bits" of DCC that makes it
unique from other OSR products. Is there a way we can replicate that in
both its original mystical form and in a more "realistic" form?

What I'm thinking is that its kind of an "association" with a more
powerful organization. So, an "Invoke Patron" check might be a call to
headquarters for resources (backup, equipment, interpretation of data,
whatever), with a subsequent results table that gives the GM guidelines on
the response.

Obviously, this makes other mechanics difficult to incorporate, but I
could even see Spellburn as a "resource burn" to increase the results of
the invoke check. For instance, a soldier might call in a favor from some
distant associate that he now owes a favor to in return.

Dunno. I haven't thought it all the way through, but it might be a cool
way to bring along the Patron system to a non-magical setting.

That idea is a keeper and I'm setting aside a few pages in the book to devote to it...

This is a rad idea. Associations, Guilds, Government/Military and Corporations as patrons?! omg.

that is an awesome idea. I really like the idea of spellburn equating to owing someone a favor, to be called in at a future date.

particulary if you could 'Invoke patron' and 'spell burn' to differnt organizations. I can picture one organization calling in a favor to take someone out while another is asking you to protect him. The PCs then need to decide who to piss off

Again: You. Must. Write. Faster.

I cannot wait to virtually get my synthetic hands on this digital product!

I would absolutely LOVE to get a copy of the demo, to help with editing (and to see the level of awesome you've hit with this).

Well, I'm working on all the mechanics necessary for the demo first so I can get that out of the way. It will probably use some old pulp art for the imagery, as I won't have the money for proper art until the KS kicks off, but you should be able to run something by February at the latest, now that Grad School is finished and all I have on my plate is game design and trying to find a day job.

Please. Don't. Write. Fast.

I want a rpg book with lots of playtest and many many random tables like in the DCC RPG core book.

Playtest is necessary and random tables are fun and give flavour and cool informations without much text !

So please, take your time. I can wait till I get a quickly usable book but I don't have time to spend in reading long texts and having to build my own tools to play.

Sorry Ogrepuppy ! :D

Oh, no worries. I playtest everything extensively before I release it. The Time Traveller's Companion was playtested for 3 months before I was satisfied that everything was working as intended, and I spent weeks finding the right images, cleaning them up and laying out the book even though folks were clamoring for its immediate release. It's all about the quality with me...

Ah, sorry about that! No matter what forum board I'm on, I almost never notice the little message bar unless I'm settled and really perusing the forum board (something I haven't really done this month due to graduation and Christmas), and sometimes I see a message, but have to leave so quickly, I forget its there. My bad. I'll PM you back.

Starting in January. I'm planning to run a demo of all our in-production games late that month.
