I'm excited to announce the Crawl! Fanzine to the third party publisher party!

Crawl! is a fan-based collection of gaming goodness exclusively available in a zine format at a budget price.

Crawl! is inspired by the original "little brown books", the Judge's Guild and DIY culture of the OSR (which reminds me of the punk rock and anarchist zine scene.)

I'm also accepting submissions NOW from readers of these forums! So PM or email me at crawl@straycouches.com with your idea, submission, or whatever. As long as it's GREAT, it'll have a good chance of making in the zine. All submissions, everything, will be owned by their contributors. It doesn't matter, either, if the material is previously published or will be published somewhere else. All contributors will also retain their rights to their works, and is free to re-publish, re-write and do whatever with their creation. This is also an opportunity to share your inventions with other fans of DCC RPG.

The future of Crawl! is ready to be written by fans like you.

If you have any questions, or ideas, please share them or contact me directly.

Visit the website for more info: http://www.crawlfanzine.com

Full sized one-sheets available here: Color & B/W

Party On!

Cool! Though I have to ask, what's the difference between the Crawl fanzine and a blog with lots of content? Is it going to be a compilation type exercise?

Aw, yeah.

This brings me back to staying up all night, hanging out with the friends who worked the skeleton shift at Kinkos.

From the Crawl! website. The post is in reference to the bat-mage on the cover of issue #1:
The patron was designed by the player of the first Wizard in the party, it's himself in the future! Sounds nuts, I know, but the concept is great. That's him on the cover, btw. Ironically the PC met with death a while back. So how is this future self of a dead character a patron? You'd have to ask him yourself by invoking him. He's insane, so I wouldn't do it personally.
That is so damn fun. The future, nigh-omnipotent me, is my own patron. (Sorta ala Raistlin and Fistandantilus.)

And if THAT wasn't enough, I'm a wingless, skeletal, bat-mage.

Brilliant. And *so* DCC.

Well done, sir.

Good question! And something that might be vague to those that aren't familiar with zines.

The zine will be actually printed, folded and bound by hand (likely by me and my gaming group) then sent out to subscribers and pre-orders. I also want to get them into FLGSs, but that'll be later down the line, and might have to be handled store to store.

This is a zine. Just like your punk-rock and anarchist zines. They're DIY, hand-made, limited production. Pretty much made with love, sweat and tears. And one of the perks is that we're fully licensed with Goodman Games, so it's as official as Judge's Guild were back in the days of the AD&D.

I think I failed to mention that contributors will get a free copy! That's honestly the best I'll be able to do to compensate contributors. Each issue will be produced at a loss, especially at first with such a limited run.

Nice! I published a zine or two myself back in the day. Well, id love to contribute. This could be a great way to gather and present alot of the ideas that have been kicked around on these forums. Once theyve been compared to the final ruleset of course....

Will there be a PDF option as well, or only printed copies?

Can Canadian DCC players get CRAWL! as a PDF?

Right now I'm pretty committed to releasing this exclusively as a zine, shipped through good old-fashioned snail mail. It's part of its charm and the format is the main reason I'm doing this. I'm not absolutely opposed to digital formats. Personally I think .epubs are a better format for reading on your glowing rectangle screens than PDF. I like that you can adjust fonts plus re-flowable text is so much faster and easier to read on tablets (all the rage) and e-readers (super cheap and readable.) But I'm not there yet. Currently I'm focused on the good ol' fashion 'zine, and it'll be shipped anywhere a mailman can go.

Unfortunately Canadian shipping will be a bit more than US, and international shipping even more than that.

That`s very cool! I also write a (German) Zine (with AD&D and D&D as themes) from 1998 till 200x. I think, I must order some zines. Maybe it is possible to translate some articles to support the DCC RPG in Germany?

I just got the good word that 3PP will be allowed to start offering their books for PRE-SALE! I have a few things to figure out, but I'm looking at offering my pre-sale when the official DCC RPG pre-sale ends, April 2nd. We still can't ship until after the game is officially for sale, and I'll take that to mean until Bricks & Mortars have them on their shelves, or when online vendors go from "pre-sale" to On-Sale. Is anyone as excited about it as me?

My pre-sale information will info will be found here, when it's ready:
http://crawlfanzine.blogspot.com/p/buy-now.html

I'm also opening up for submissions:
http://crawlfanzine.blogspot.com/p/submissions.html

Here's a teaser if you haven't seen it already:
Image

The first issue features a simple OSR spell conversion system, a new patron and tips on creating a more S&S campaign of the likes of Conan or Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser, by removing demi-humans, clerics & thieves (if desired.)

Upcoming issues will be a bit more focused, with the following themes:

Loot and Enchanted Items
Nautical Adventures
Spells and Magic

I plan and expect to write 90% of the material found in each zine. It helps keep it within my vision, but I also won't pass up to share some of the good stuff I expect to get. The first issue features an amazing patron that was written by the first wizard in the party. I couldn't pass it up, plus he's also one of the artists! As I said, I had to share.

I'll do my best to update this forum, but in case I lag, subscribe to the blog/website: http://crawlfanzine.blogspot.com/. (http://www.crawlfanzine.com goes to the same place.)

Pre-orders are now being taken: http://crawlfanzine.blogspot.com/p/buy-now.html

Remember I can't ship until the full game is released. But your pre-orders will help get you a copy sooner than later!

Is it possible to pre-order this baby internationally? Even with some higher shipping costs?

Very cool. Considered one to Poland already bought when I scrap up enough money. Being a student, musician and fan of heavy metal is truly hard :D

Metal is my music of choice. I listen to Death.FM and MetalCast before my game every Thursday. Metalcast is great because the feature international metal every episode. Got any recommendations from Poland? I prefer Power Metal, but I've learned to love and appreciate Death, Black and Doom metal.

Ravenheart87: Hahahaha! Prawda prawda! Czyżby rodak na forum?

reverenddak: Mate - metal runs through my blood! I love it totally. I am also a collector of all things heavy metal! If you want to some Polish metal reccomendations I can probably guide you to tons of great death metal! Also some heavy metal from the olden days. Not much power metal I am afraid if you mean the newer modern power metal style. If you like that there is a band I can reccomend - in fact my drummer plays guitar in it - Night Mistress:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlfVYIYPkic

Try it and see if you like it.

As for some bands that play classic heavy metal - check out the bands Monstrum, Witchking, Turbo and Stos.

As for death metal - give the bands Throneum, Sphere, Trauma, Decapitated and Lost Soul a listen. A diversity of death metal styles there - from technical to very old school brutality.

I had to use google translate for this, since the previous statement covers 100% of polish knowledge. Greetings from Hungary, by the way. :)

Lemmy is God, and Iron Maiden & Judas Priest are demons on the same plane.

Night Mistress sounds awesome. Yeah, that's the stuff i love the best. Favorites of mine are Edguy, Hammerfall and Manowar. But I've been digging doom and death for sure.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll be checking them out for sure.

Lemmy is the God among gods.

Check out my post in the DCC music thread for some old school esoteric sounding heavy metal and classic doom metal if you like those.

As for Night Mistress - check out their full CD if able. You will surely like it.
