Indeed! Another C&C conversion or at least a 1st Edition!

I'm kinda on the fence with this.

As 4th ed. seems to be concentrating more on the 'tactical battle map' aspect of the game, adventures will need to cater to this.

So they will undoubtedly consist of mainly maps and tactical scenarios for miniatures.

I love the writing of the DCCs, but I think their usefulness for C&C -if they're simply translations from 4th ed.- may go down somewhat.

Well, first solution that pops into my mind is ... don't make the C&C DCCs a translation of D&D4 adventures.

So, whether this is an accurate description of 4e gaming, or not, is beside the point.

Does anyone really think the DCC's themselves will devolve to such a state?

I can't imagine them not being at least as rich in story as they are now. Perhaps moreso, given the on-going DCC world to develop....

I think they will if the game calls for it.

I saw a review by one of the play testers, and he mentioned how 4E required a lot in the way of maps and tactical situations, and how the game they played was pretty much that.

While he liked it, he did say that adventures were pretty much a collection of battle maps.

I can't see the DCCs accomodating this unless they become fairly thick volumes, or they cut down on story stuff/fluff.

ah, but you forget about prester's map page (or whatever). i could totally see goodman games keeping the dcc format the same, and simply making sure that the maps are up for download with every release.

the dcc i've read are ALL about the stories. let wizards reduce their adventures to a string of battlemaps. more reason to spend my $$$ on dccs.

Quite right! The time is indeed about right for a new C&C conversion...or a new 1st Edition conversion release.

Any plans for another 1st Edition release for this year's GenCon?

No more C&C DCC

Uh, like forever? Unless WotC drastically changes the GSL, Goodman Games will not be allowed to publish 3.x/OGL products like C&C DCCs concurrently when it fully moves over to 4E.

A better question would be, "when's C&C going to 4E?"

It isn't. ;)

C&C is as it stands. :)

I bet it's going to be cool.

I too must throw my hat in the ring for more DCC's translated to Castles & Crusades. Personally, I would love to see all the remaining 3.X modules either converted to 1E or C&C instead of 4E.

Keolander,

If I'm reading all the scoop concerning 4th edition, Goodman Games will have to decide to move to 4th ed. OR stay with the Open Game License. Not both. . . .

I fear the days of Goodman Games releasing C&C products or special releases for AD&D may be over come June.

Hmmm, does the license address 'legacy' eras, such as 1st Edition AD&D? It may be that they can't do 3e C&C products, but may still be able to turn out 1e conversions....

I'm probably speaking out of turn here - I do that a lot - but I think that the 1E DCC conversions were technically published using OGL terminology allowed under the OGL itself, albeit in the form of 1E-like stats, mechanics and spellnames, and thus would be considered OGL products.

Absent the OGL terminology and the use of the OGL itself, I'm not sure that release of AD&D compatible adventures would be legally possible, unless it were done with a substitute rules system like OSRIC, the old Judges Guild Universal System or some such.

Hmmm. Not having seen any of the 1e conversions firsthand, I'll defer to your suposition, Mr. 4547 (or can I call you 'TJ'?)

So, then the question becomes, how 1e-able is 4e?

Well, I did the conversion work on all three of the 1E conversion products released by Goodman Games. But someone else did the license disclosures, someone a lot more familiar with the OGL and the d20 STL than me.

And I respond to any of the following:

Jon, John, tacojohn, tacojohn4547, tj, Daddy, and EBDM (Evil Bastard Dungeon Master - a title my players hung on me a long time ago).
